| The Beatles – I'll Follow the Sun Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
|
When I used to listen to this one I saw it as him saying that he's tired of waiting for this girl to get it, for her to realize that he's right in front of her. I always interpreted the lines "for tomorrow may rain so I'll follow the sun" as something different. I saw it more like you can't see the sun when it rains (usually) and so he couldn't say where he was going. He didn't know where exactly he may be headed just like you can't find the sun in the sky when its raining, although you know its there. All he knew was that he was leaving. I see a guy disappearing off into a fog... maybe that's just me... |

No one has commented on this one yet... I don't know any background on the song or the lyrics, but I love how Paul sings this one... Live at the BBC is a new acquisition for me and I'm discovering all those songs they played but never put on an album and I think they're awesome in their own right. |

I love that little speech part in the middle that John did. It just shows his absurdity for word play, one of the reasons I am drawn to him and his odder songs... also his stories and poems in his books... genius. He said once he was either a genius or crazy, and he may have been both, but he was definitely a genius. |

| The Beatles – Your Mother Should Know Lyrics

I remember this album the best from when my parents would put it on in the car on trips... this song always reminded me of the fact that the Beatles were around when my parents were kids. It always makes me think I should get up and dance to this song... even if it was a hit after my mother was born, but I still like it. It'll be one for my kids to think about for me! Just a great happy little melody. |

I saw 2 people say that John said F'in Hell in the song and I agree, but according to "What Goes On", a compilation of Beatles Anomalies... it was because John sang "let her into your skin" as opposed to "under your skin" which he was known for... and it's not about heroin. Many of the drug-written songs were claimed as those, and this one was for Julian after John and Cynthia's divorce |

Again, I'm not sure about the drug thing... I really don't think there are that many Beatles songs with references to drugs. That's just me. Oh there are some, but not that many. I love the happy upbeat sound of this song... it reminds me of listening to this song when I was a child! |

I enjoy the song as well. If anyone has seen the movie that was on NBC (I think that's the right network!) in 2000 for the 20th anniversary of John's passing, they use this song in it. The movie portrays John and the Beatles' lives from when John meets up with Paul at the Garden Fete through when they find out about being on the Ed Sullivan show in America. Obviously they leave out gaps of stuff because that's a long time frame, but he learns guitar from his mother to this song... I found that interesting. |

| The Beatles – Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Lyrics

Ok, for baby_blue, it was his son Julian who was born April 8, 1963, and Julian came home with the picture of Lucy-in the sky with diamonds in 1966. She was a girl at nursery school he knew... All the beatles, and Julian, back up the story. The rest of the psychadelic parts in the song go back to Lewis Carroll and "Through the Looking Glass." I usually don't like covers of Beatles songs, but I think I like the Elton John and "Dr. Winston O'Boogie" version better than the beatles one... check it out! Also, look up Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds on Wikipedia and you'll get more of the story... |

Definitely a good cover. The thing with the Beatles and covers is they usually did a good enough job staying to the original song, but adding their own flavor to it. People don't like to hear the same exact song by another, but they hate it when it doesn't sound close enough. Paul rocks it out with his awesome voice, yet again... he could really belt them out when he wanted to! |

I like this song, but I can see why John didn't. His songs weren't so cliched and this is more typical of Paul's style. We Can Work It Out is such a good example of how John and Paul are foils... Paul's part being optimistic and John's being more dark and depressing. |

I just love the beat of this song and how the lyrics just sort of follow each other without breaks. I think it's pretty genious how he did that without having them run into each other in a jumble. Very good job, Paul! |

I can't remember how many they had, but John and Yoko had a couple of miscarriages. Yoko had had a lot of abortions, and John had done so many drugs, no wonder... They went to a specialist who told them to live and eat right and they would have a baby. They ended up having Sean, and the guy died soon after, weird, right? Anyeay, this song is great, I always found humor in that line John put in, always the dirty one! |

| The Beatles – I'll Get You Lyrics

The lyrics actually go "Well there's gonna be a time, When I'm gonna change your mind" by the way. In the Past Masters version, Paul can be heard singing the right lyrics, while John sings "make you mine" instead of "change your mind". It is change your mind, because in the Anthology 1 version where they sing it live, they both sing "change your mind." But, both work in the song really. John was pretty infamous for not singing the right lyrics... he did a similar thing in "Slow Down" and again in "Hey Jude" |

I love this one... if you watch the anthology movie, its pretty amusing when they get to a part that has all the bad takes of songs... with this one, John starts singing "I... should have known better with a girl like you" and when he gets to you his voice goes funny and he clears his throat! I always found their takes that didn't make it almost as amusing as listening to the songs! |

A good song... I remember reading somewhere that John was a bit jealous of this song... am I right? Either way, John did play this song with Elton John at one of his concerts... John introduced it by saying (don't hold me to it...) "I'd like to thank Elton and the boys for having me on tonight...we tried to think of a number to finish off with so I can get out of here and be sick...and we thought we'd do a number of an old estranged(not sure on that word) fiance of mine...called Paul...this is one I never sang its an old Beatle number, and we just about know it..." Well they did know it, and they rocked it pretty well... a good song from Paul! |

Yes, George Martin gave them this song to do because he didn't think they would have a song of their own to record to make a good single, but thankfully John and Paull pulled Love Me Do and Please Please Me out of their hats. They did this one in a recording session for that reason, but didn't care for it at all. Thankfully they never used it and passed the song off to some other group... their first single did so well! But, they did do a good job with this recording, even if it lacked... |

| The Beatles – A Hard Day's Night Lyrics

I think that the Beatles did have some great stuff towards the end of their career, but they had some good stuff in the beginning too. I think it's pretty creative making a song from Ringo's line that he said coming out of the studio when he said "It's been a hard day...'s night!" when he realized it's night, not day... also, the Beatles were innovative in the beggining too... the chord in the beginning of the song I think, was not a chord used to enter a song normally. They played very 50s and 60s pop, but they added their own special style. Watch the anthology, Paul explains it really well! |

I always found it to be just a weird add-in on the CD. I never understood why it was there. I would also like to hear the longer versions of this song... can I download it somewhere? Or find it on some rare Beatles CD? It was interesting that they didn't include it on Let it Be... Naked. Because Phil Spector had a say in this song? They pretty much took out what he had put into the album and made George Martin the producer again... |

I find it odd that the discussion for this song turned into Golden Slumbers! Well, I want to talk about this one... I actually like this part, as I like all the parts of the medley. I feel they should be listened to all together. On a side note, In John's movie Imagine, there's this part where a raggedy man comes to his house and professes his hearing a call from John from Carry That Weight. John had to tell him that they were just writing songs because it was their job (or something of the like). I thought it really cool when John invited him in for some food, looked like the guy could've used some! |

I don't think that it was written for anyone in specific really, but then again I don't really believe they took from their own lives unless they say so...
