He meets this girl, and confused as to why she picked him. She comes across as someone who can be easliy hurt or damaged "American girls are weather and noise Playing the changes for all of the boys Holding a candle right up to my hand Making me feel so incredible" he is saying how girls are unpredictable, and will adapt to what they think a guy wants and can make a guy feel like a million bucks. "American girls are feathers and cream Coming to bed so edible" And here he shows how he would fall for it all over again, that girls are something that, even though he knows he is going to get hurt, he cant say no to trying. |

He knows shes been lying. That something else is going on. She wont tell him. And he's been just brushing it under the rug. He says her lying comforts him, as it shows she loves him enough not to tell him the truth and hurt him. All is nothing in moderation, if she only cheats/lies/whatever occasionally its not as big a deal and he can deal with it. would you be happier if I was only half the man I am If he wasnt honest and stuck with her and was only half the "man" he is I can lie to you, and say I didn’t mean it, In the same way she lies to him and he knows it. Hes throwing it back in her face. |

| Its talking about how he loved this girl. The first verse is telling what she thought love was, and the 2nd is what he thought it should be. She would hold him down, blame everything on him(she was never wrong), and she still wanted more from him, something he couldnt give her because he wasn't loved(for a love that isn't there) She wanted him to be what she wanted, to live the life she wanted, and never let him be himself. In the end it made him bitter from trying to work through things so many times, for so long. He is the one who had to make himself better, when he got depressed, or upset, she would never try to help him, or make things better. | |
