IMO this song is about the cycle of life between two lovers. Verse 1 The "home" represents the life they built together, and the description of the home is the details of their long relationship. Verse 2 part 1 The "garden" represents the children the may have had, and how it had brought them together. Verse 2 part 2 Climbing the top of the tree is the symbol of old age, and the realization that death is inevitable. It scares him so he holds onto her, and she held onto him letting her know how much she means to him. Love this song... makes me cry inside every time i hear it. |
