The Goo Goo Dolls – Iris Lyrics 18 years ago
I never understood the appeal. The lyrics make me cringe and it's generally pretty vomit-worthy. I mean, "And you bleed just to know you're alive"? Give me a break.

Lily Allen – Sunday Morning Lyrics 18 years ago
BRILLIANT song. Complete travesty that it isn't on the album.

Fall Out Boy – Don't You Know Who I Think I Am? Lyrics 18 years ago
abrandnewnovember, it's a twist on a typical "Don't you know who I am?!" sort of proclamation. Supposedly Pete Wentz heard someone actually say it, but I recognised it from an old Libertines lyric ('The Boy Looked At Johnny') so hmm...

Martha Wainwright – Far Away Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't reckon it's intentional, but parts of this song strongly remind me of passages from Sophocles' "Electra"...

Lily Allen – Littlest Things Lyrics 19 years ago
Agreeing with soadnot; the beginning does sound oddly reminiscent of 'Karma Police' by Radiohead.

Robots in Disguise – La Nuit Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is just brilliant. Probably RID's best. Just a shame that 'oh, nuit' sounds so very much like 'ennui'.

Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics 19 years ago
Also evil, also into cats...

Patrick Wolf – Get Lost Lyrics 19 years ago
This is lovely but anyone noticed the real similarity to The Cure's 'Boys Don't Cry'? Not quite in style, obviously, but melody-wise...

Razorlight – America Lyrics 19 years ago
I wonder if The Borrell's attempting use of 'America' in a sort of Simon & Garfunkel manner, aka. the ideal? He talks about restlessness and unhappiness and how it's parallel to the 'trouble in America', and all that. And it also works literally speaking, I suppose, though while being really rather simple.

(Of course, this IS Razorlight, so it could just be a load of gobshite, really.)

Babyshambles – Sticks and Stones Lyrics 19 years ago
Hahahaha, the fuck? In reference to citizenerased19, I would have thought the reference to DLBITS were obvious. The Sun tabloid indeed.

The Libertines – Hooray for the 21st Century Lyrics 19 years ago
"What became of the working class?
Nike Air, Reebok, Addidas
Scratch cards, pinballs, ecstasy
Hooray for the 21st century"

Wonderful.

The Libertines – Love On The Dole Lyrics 19 years ago
That's 'drink a toast to the brawling classes', actually.

The Libertines – You're My Waterloo Lyrics 19 years ago
"You'll never fumigate the demons
No matter how much you smoke"

Wonderfully articulate. I'd agree with majormajor and say that, especially considering that line, this song is definitely focused on Carl. Which just makes the 'lover' lyric all the more interesting, eh?

Supergrass – Pumping On Your Stereo Lyrics 19 years ago
Seriously, listen to it. I'd swear that at points they are genuinely saying 'humping'.

José González – Heartbeats Lyrics 19 years ago
That's pretty random, to assume it's about a pregnancy. The entire song suggests it's centered around the sex act; considering the other lyrics, when I hear 'One night to push and scream/And then relief ', my mind doesn't exactly jump to the thought of giving birth.

Anyway. Nice cover, but can't beat The Knife's original.

The Decemberists – The Engine Driver Lyrics 19 years ago
I really don't want to write too much of what I think is 'behind' this song for fear of ruining it, but I think it's mainly on the theme of adaptation and changing who you are to fit someone else, or the person that you want to be; how he describes himself as a writer, a moneylender, etc etc.... but when it all boils down to it he is the same man and that'll continue down for generations (both figuratively and literally) .... "so will be my grandson".

The Kooks – Naive Lyrics 19 years ago
Very nice from a musical perspective, but the lyrics are pretty dull, and generally very cliched. Of course, I doubt this'll be picked up on, what with them being a 'fresh new indie band', or whatever.
