I believe Sirdon was being ridiculously sarcastic. But anyway, I absolutely adore this song... its freaking amazing! I agree that it is about heroin... maybe about using heroin to get over some rich girl who thinks she's better than him. |

I think it could definitely be interpreted as being about a prostitute. I mean the beautiful opening line is "oh the night... here it comes again" and when he talks about keeping her in the back of his mind feels good but makes him hurt, and "i'm too scared to know hwo to feel about you now" because he feels bad for using her, but he still wants to. Also "neither of you really helps me to sleep anymore" and "one breaks my body and the other breaks my soul" he's talking about her and drugs or alcohol... and he could mean that taking drugs and/or sleeping with her helps him sleep but its not working anymore, and that sleeping with her is breaking his heart because, again, he feels bad for her and her situation.
In my personal opinion, I think he's just referring to being in love with someone and missing her like hell. The line "feels so good but damn it makes me hurt" is dead-on exactly how you feel when you miss someone and you think about them. And "I'm too scared to know how to feel about you now" is incredibly insightful because you still love them, but you don't want to anymore and you can't stop caring, but you know you have to move on.
Just something to think about. I could be completely off base. |

Such a beautiful, simple song. I think the beauty in it is how he talks about all the little things... how love is in the little, stupid things you remember about someone and how sweet and meaningful they are. |

I think this song is kind of confusing, but I love it. The music is freaking incredible... Ryan Adams is my hero. Anyway, I think it is referring to a guy who is lonley and possibly sexually frustrated "firecracker with a pile of empties/ detonated with a lonley fire". And he's waiting for a girl to give him the go-ahead. He keeps waiting for anything to tell him to go after what/who he wants. Ok, so I guess its not all that complicated. Still a great, fun song. |
