Rilo Kiley – So Long Lyrics 19 years ago
holy crap you jerks have completely sullied the name of this song which by the way is one of the greatest RK songs and definitely one of Blake's best songs. this song is sad as hell and if you don't know who/what this song is about than you obviously haven't been paying attention.

and to the first poster who pointed out la jolla - very astute that is where Blake is from.

no, it's correct as written.... "there was no simple cure for unlucky in love"

The Elected – A Response to Greed Lyrics 19 years ago
the last verse of this song sums up the entire album for me.... it's about failing, it's about losing something you love so much, but accepting the fact that if that person ever needed you, you would be there for them, because although others may come along, you will always hold that person with the highest regard. I think it hits home for a lot of people.

Rilo Kiley – Love and War (11/11/46) Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is two separate stories that end up tied together at the end.

the first verses have to do with a fight between lovers (or ex-lovers)

"I never loved you, even in my weakness, you were fuel for the fire, cannon fodder" - I think this is the narrator singing the words someone has said to her.... that's why before she said "why must you try to ruin my peace of mind?" the person replies, "they were only words and i never meant them," then the narrator goes on to sing the mean things the other person said to her. (Sorry, it makes more sense to me I'm sure).

The second part is all about Jenny's grandfather. He was in WWII and died when she was young.

"all is fair in love and war" - that's what her mom said, then Jenny herself returns back to the person she was singing to at the beginning:
"-and love,-- a civil war like this, it always sells itself."

"love" to me in that line sounds like she's talking to someone, like she's calling someone "love," then saying, "a civil war like this (between us) it always sells itself."

Jenny Lewis – You Are What You Love Lyrics 19 years ago
Jenny wrote this song a couple of years ago, and sang it during her first solo show opening for the Elected in June 2004, when she said "that song is haunted. I think it's haunted."

This song is obviously about an ex-lover that the narrator still is in contact with on a regular basis ("the phone is a fine invention"). Hmmm.

Jenny Lewis – New Song (Untitled) Lyrics 19 years ago
"no bad feelings of pleasing you or changing.
I’m changing, forgettin’ you.
I forgot him, too.
I do not want to."

what she says is, "Forgetting you- I've forgotten to. I do not want to."

She's forgotten to forget someone and now she supposedly doesn't want to forget this person she forgot to forget, and that line makes my brain all mushy. Tongue twister.

Rilo Kiley – Pull Me In Tighter Lyrics 19 years ago
"There’s no need for guessing
When you are faithfully true
Though my body may wander
My mind is always with you."

that's the heart of it right there. even though she's with someone else at the moment, she's still thinking of the person she's singing to. I love this song. I hope it's on the next album.

The Elected – Did Me Good Lyrics 19 years ago
thoward, emily is definitely a real person. in the liner notes of this album, the first person blake thanks is someone named "emily anne." i also read that posting on rk.net that emily was in the video for not going home. not sure if she's a current or ex girlfriend, though.

also-- maybe it's because i've been brainwashed by the whole fleetwood mac/lindsey buckingham/stevie nicks thing (they are still writing songs to and about each other after all these years "apart") but I don't see anything wrong with Blake writing songs about Jenny and vice versa. even though they aren't "together" anymore technically, it's obvious they still mean a great deal to each other or there would be no more rilo kiley, ya think? and jenny definitely still has blake elements in her songs. there's nothing wrong with that. let's start with "you are what you love," and "pull me in tighter."

hey thoward - in the liner notes of this album, jenny is credited as co-writing this song as well as fireflies in a steel mill with blake.
