Shinedown – Better Version Lyrics 19 years ago
I think he's talking to society. This is the anthem of non-conformity.

"some1 elses amerika" I always thought was his way of mawking America. "No real reason to accept the way things have changed"... He's trying to motivate change into the world.

Shinedown – The Dream Lyrics 19 years ago
The first part sounds like maybe it's the "dreaming" part of the poem, but I actually think that it is the reality. "Whisper in the yard and turn the trees all into toys,
Lay there on the ground and turn the dirt into your joy,
From what I see and what I know,
It's all been boring lately so I suggest we trade a question mark in for a maybe,"
I think that is about making what you already have, not what you bought, into something more. Like a child plays in trees and dirt, but it does get boring after awhile. So you begin to let go of it for something more. "time your riddles right and make a point that has no sense,
make sure that you're smiling and the money's been well spent,
Innocence and ignorance it all goes hand in hand,
I'm not sure that I'm right but I hope you'll understand,
I hope that you're still searching for the start that has no end,
and all the plastic people ave now become your friends" Thats when people start to watch you. You cant mess up, you cant fail them. You say what they want to hear, but not necessarily what you think about it. You wear the masks and buy the things that they want to see. You eventually just get so wrapped up in becoming what others want you to be that you are oblivious to whats truly going on. You're just trying to please everyone else.
"Before you start to drift and your soul begins to scream,
I just wanted to tell you that you're only listening to 'A Dream'"
Before you get sucked into the things and completely entrapped, its just a reminder that it's not reality. You are reality, what you do is your dream.

Shinedown – 45 Lyrics 19 years ago
He says "Send away for a priceless gift" and then it's followed by "Send away for a perfect world" A perfect world is a priceless gift. And it's a dream, a hope even. Thats what I think this song is about. Dreams. It goes on to say "In these times of doing what you're told, you keep these feelings no one knows" Dreams are like that. You live and breathe them and sometimes people will tell you other things, but you just cant shake your dream. Dreams are things that manifest themselves inside your mind, heart and womb. Which is what I think the "unborn child" is a reference to. In a sense, we have to "birth" our dreams. We carry them, labor for them, and eventually they come to be. "In a box high up on the shelf, left for you, no one else". There are constantly going to be people in our lives trying to kill our dreams (reference to the gun). We have to hold them high and protect them from everything. "There's no real reason to accept the way things have changed" No matter what is going on in your life, no matter what's happening, there's always a way out. Things change, but it's no reason to just surrender to it because thats the way things are. "Everyone's pointing their fingers, always ondemning me, but nobody knows what I believe" Ever had a desperation for something? This is something that you want so bad you can almost taste and feel it. Its so exciting and wonderful that you want to share it with everyone. And after you tell them about it, ever had someone laugh at you for it? Like its ignorant and naive? It feels like condemnation. No one wants to be laughed at or made fun of for something thats that important to them, but at the same time they dont know just how important it truly is. They dont understand the way it's embedded into your heart and how you believe in it. So basically this song is about protecting and holding on to the hope of a dream.

So basically I dont think the song is about suicide, but more the murder of a dream.

Flyleaf – All Around Me Lyrics 19 years ago
You're all right... this is most definately a love song. In fact, one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard. But the song is for God. Who better to sing love songs to?

Flyleaf – Perfect Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about God... like most of Flyleaf's songs. She's saying that through her own strength she's nothing, but through God she is perfect.
"All my efforts to clean me
Leave me putrid and filthy
And how can you look at me
When I can't stand myself"
In our own power we cant clean ourselves and make ourselves pure. We only destroy ourselves even more. It's amazing how in our sin and filth and God in his infiniute purity can still stand the sight of us.
"I tried to kill you
You tried to save me"
The cross. Our sin murdered him, but his love saved us.

Shinedown – Simple Man (Lynyrd Skynyrd cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
So here's the interesting thing about this song. In the south, Lynyrd Skynyrd is almost sacred. Lynyrd Skynyrd covers are rarely, if ever, seen as good as, much less better than the original version. Shinedown on the other hand managed to completely take that song over and not ruin it, but perfect it.

Shinedown – Shed Some Light Lyrics 19 years ago
Religion and faith are two entirely different things. This song is one of the most amazing ones I've heard in a long, long time. To hear a band like Shinedown sing about a desperate search for something like faith to hold on to is incredible.

Shinedown – Burning Bright Lyrics 19 years ago
First of all, this is my heart song... I absolutely love it and cant help but cry everytime I hear it. I was a mess at the concert when I heard them play it live.

It isn't about life, but more about a situation. The song is about dealing with the situation. It kind of makes me think of a death or something. I always thing of my grandpa when I hear it.

The first part is about when a situation occurs and you dont really want to talk about it. It's easier if you just leave it as what it is then try to make sense out of it. It's more comfortable to show yourself, because sometimes yourself is stronger than the situation. You're less vulnerable if people dont see your pain.

"The more the light shines through me, I pretend to close my eyes"
When the way you really feel begins to show, you try not to see it
"The more the dark consumes me, I pretend I'm burning bright"
When it starts to get really bad, you fake your way through it to try and keep the pain away.

The second part makes me think about keeping away from something or someone because it wasn't "cool". Like, in my situation, visiting my grandparents. It becomes habit because once you've been away for a while you feel too guilty to go back. But once it's gone, you cant go back and you would give anything to be able to have it back again.

"There's nothing ever wrong, but nothings ever right, such a cruel contradiction..."
To the world, they see that nothing's wrong. No one wants to ask you how you are if you're going to answer "bad". You pretend like everything's always okay, but it isn't and eventually it just makes you sick of pretending. People always want you to be a certain way and it's not always easy to be that way because life is a constant change. There's always a certain way to go but it may not always be that easy to figure out which is which because rarely does it make sense.
