I think it all plays inot the refrain...the numbing of the heart, and the disenfranchised of the lonliness who speaks of...carving up the face is just morbid imagery of feeling like you have to be something your not. I see this song as a hgark back to the first song, but on the other end of the spectrum. In the first song he talks about "Off with their heads" and "they got not right," its much more aggressive and reactionary towards society's ills. This song, I feel, speaks also of society's ills and what society tries to pigoen hole us into, whatever role it might be. So where "Sleeping Lessons" gives us courage to face all the problems, "A Comet appears" ofers the dooming, inevitable result of our battle.
This is obviously, my little interpretation. Take what you will from it. |

The shins realy should have some plan to make five albums at once, then take only the first and last of those five albums and distribute that album as the actual album...if you get my drift...thay can call it "firts and lasts." In the album history, these songs have always been by far their best. And I speak mostly of Chutes Too Narrow. |

"To make sinking stones fly" not "untill it'll sink and stones fly"
It has to be the former, for a sinking stone cannot fly, just as we cannot do whatever the hell he's talking about. |

"Chin to bone" I think it is, though that doesnt make much more sense. It just sounds nicer. |

I think its: "With the wan and dreaming eyes of an orphan"
At least it should be. I should write all the shins lyrics!!! |

Actually this song isn't about religion or anything like that. This song is about pizza. And the rest of the album is all about various italian food. They made the record when they were really hungry.
I kid, I kid. The only strong theme I can get out of everything is the use of "she" from the first song weaved through seems the only consistent thing to me as an evil spirit. |
