Between the Buried and Me – Autodidact Lyrics 18 years ago
Everything I am about to say concerning what i think this song is about is my personal opinion, and i do not deny the fact that i could be absolutly wrong.

I believe this song is about acceptance in todays world, and how not only is it very hard to find such acceptance, but he indirectly implies that it is not worth the worry. But he ties this thought in with not only being accepted, but also stay true to himself.

When he says things like, "pussy, yes they call me this", he is refering to the people that think he is strange or not living up to societies expectations lashing out at him for being himself so to speak.

When he says things like, "Maybe i should just be this bedroom performer", he says maybe i should just give up, and live their lives of pleasure. Aka, i should just take the easy way out.

I think what tyboisfun is saying concerning the pressures of the music scene might have some weight behind it. This is BTBAMs third album, but second major album, and it is very possible that their label, or whoever produced them tried to force them into sounding more radio friendly, or like tyboisfunsaid, they might have put pressure on them to write a song as "incredible" as mordecai.

but he keeps going back into the idea that living a life based around sex and the things this singer is known to lash out against (being pleasure for the wrong reasons), would be amuch easier life. If anything it seems like he is being tempted.

The last lines, though the most EPIC mofocking lines ive ever heard live, are a bit harder to intepret. He calls himself a coward, and then makes implications that he is losing, or getting rid of something he once possesed. When reading it would seem like he is pretty much saying, "fuck it ill take that life of pleasure". The only thing that confuses me is i doubt he would actually go doing this in real life, so it brings up the possiblilty that these lyrics might have been written for a particular circumstance that took place in the past. Maybe he was facing a descion in which things like sex tempted him, and at the end he just gave in to the temptaions and went for it. If this were to be the case the lyrics at the end would serve a much more powerful purpose, and lines like "Piss it all away" would refer to a certain or a couple certains things of regret he feels, and he sarcastically says to himself, "Go ahead buddy, throw everything youve ever believed away".

So concluding id say this song is about an argument the speaker is having in his head concerning a descion that applies to several things, including societies standards and his acceptance to this society. The beginning of the song is read as more of a general slur of thoughts and personal arguments, but the end seems more personal and deals with intense feelings of regret.

btw this is the best BTBAM song out there. ive seem them 3 times, and the second time (ozzfest) they played this song last and it was epic as fuck.

rock on guys.

Norma Jean – shaunluu Lyrics 19 years ago
First off this song was not written about shaunn luu, but it is dedicated to him.

to break this down as simply as possible, its a positive outlook on death.

The first couple of lines (especailly including the 3rd one) are saying everyones gonna die.

then it goes on to say even though this is a fact of life, it still is horrifing (ex- It leaves their branches white. all breathe, be breathless)

the lines, to quit this mortal frame, is simply saying to die. i dont kno what hes tryin to say with "were not safe".

then the last part of the song is just saying how when we die were all gonna be with God and all the others that have died in the past and will die in the future.

im really tierd right now, so i think im a bit off, but i felt like sharing none the less.

Every Time I Die – Godspeed Us to Sea Lyrics 19 years ago
yea i love these lyrics, and im agreeing with losemoney, concerning the reference to politics. Definatley a kick to the balls. I also think he makes a reference to former prez clinton (fag) when saying "And the voice that you're hearing, isn't me. What you are hearing isn't mine. There's been some horrible mistake".

my favorite line is "I'm a proud god-fearing registered democrat." because thats what most liberal and democratic personalities are made up of. Im not taking a side either way (although i do have my opinions) but you cant be in politics and be religious (or atleast a good christian), therfor they say they believe in God when most likely they probably if only fear a God

As Cities Burn – Admission: Regret Lyrics 19 years ago
ok first off, not only is it the best song on the album, it has the best intro, the best breakdown, and the best guest singer of like all in its genre (posthardcore). And for those who dont kno, Josh Scogin (ex-Norma Jean, current The Chariot vocalist) is the guest vocalist. He actually produces the album.

the songs about addiction to temptations, and he who is addicted shouting out for someone t help him. He does this because he REGRETs the stuff he's done in the past and wants to turn a new.

Norma Jean – Sometimes It's Our Mistakes That Make For The Greatest Ideas Lyrics 19 years ago
i think ur all right, accept i think the lyrics are coming from Josh Scogin (the vocalists) actual thought process, or possibly a thought he had in real life that he felt was the reason for his lyrics (or possibly becasme the reason he started wrting lyircs).

Norma Jean – Liarsenic: Creating a Universe of Discourse Lyrics 19 years ago
i dunno underoathfan111, its a good idea, but i feel another meaning. Im gonna say it concerns todays society, and how people just fall into its deceptive ways.

The daughters of question have been murdered: this seems to me like he's saying we dont question the horrors society warps us into believeing, though we might have at one point in time.

Deception is charming: Like i said before, i think he's expressing the fall into the corruption society brings upon us trough deception, and since the deception is now days based on premiscous senses of pleasure, it is indeed charming.

No, I dont think so: saying in actuality deception aint charming because it leads us down a fucked up pathway.

the entire chours from these things will harmonize- to tear down: I think he's sayin all these problems we face and more importantly the people that expirence these problems will all come together in the end, but when he says tear down i think he's tryin to say like, it'll be a tough journey to achieve that status.

Lair, condesender, words born of bastards: I believe this is more of a personal frustration with these teachings the average american views through the televsion set everyday, and the singer not only is lashing out at them, yet at the same time he's (i think) attempting to throw attention towards those emotions so others might recognize whats happenin.

Our swords will rest and a course of miracles all hail, and killers will rise. Where have we gone wrong: I personally believe that this is a call to all those who understand this message, and an attempt to let them all understand that they should recognize these moral illnesses, and attempt to make a change through peaceful methods (our swords will rest). The change that he hopes for is what i consider to be the "miracles all hail" part. Killers will rise i think is a statement generated towards those who will try to stop us, whether he is talking about actual people, or its a metaphor for sin, im not sure. Finally, where did we go wrong is just a sentence bringing our focus away from the hopeful future and back into what is the still fog filled present.

Im not sure what he means by understand laced the web. Im guessing he's sayin like understand is a person of some sort, and he laced some web of which i am unaware of.

This might be the true interpretation, or not, its just what this sng means to me.

I truthfully feel that this message (if it is what i believe it to be) is a powerful one. Im the singer in a band and i normally focus on worldly corruptions and shit. Not in a christian sense, more like a anti-whores or anti-idols kinda stuff. But this particular message reminds me a Jesse Leach (old KsE) style shit. Its all just a call for a better world, and i think we should strive for it. Good job Cory.

Every Time I Die – Floater Lyrics 19 years ago
dudes pretorben is absoultley correct. But to continue on that point, not only is it about regret, it deals with suicide all together.

to my mistress the bridge is indictating the end of his life, talking to the last person around, which just happens to be a bridge.

farwell scenic highway overpass: this is the scenic highway overpass he's about to jump off of.

he's definatley feelig these suicidal tendicies from a heartbreak expirence, you see this is "bring ur hildren to the water and let them see what heartache did"

I also think he's pulling out a metaphoric referecne to the lake and or bridge being the one he is becoming married too, as opposed to the girl he is depressed over.

Also, towards the beginning with the lines ive got a bad rep to think about etc., i believe he is trying to find other things to justify his suicide upon rather than just this heart ache he has expirenced.

lastly, the phrase drag the lake is a commonly used term for if a child was lost near by a lake. They "comb" the lake for a body. So by saying drag the lake youll find it full of love, he's saying drag the lake and u'll see all sorts of people down there, most likely caused from a depressional sense of heartache.

Keith Buckley is my favorite lyricsist ever.

ok first off, you have absoultley no clue wtf ur talking about. This is album if nething lashes out at sellouts. This song is one of the best on the album, and the who oh is he best fucking part. Hot damn is awesome too, but i bet ur ass doesnt even have last night in town, and i definatly bet u dont have the burial plot bidding war. this album is awesome and anyone who is pissed at etid because they sound a bit lighter tha previously, should be shot because they dont pertain the mental ability to opne their minds to different sounds exerting themselves from etid's amplifiers. Why dont u star a fuckin band, make 3 albums, and try not to chage ur sound. Music is meant to progress, and honestly i would be bored as hell listening to 5 different versions of hot damn all the time. Open ur damn mind margaret.
