| Sufjan Stevens – Sister Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
All parts of this song are necessary, if not beautiful. The effect that is created is beautiful, and that makes the instrumental part beautiful, though perhaps a little hard to listen to. I'm not sure that the "sister" being addressed is a blood sister, a friend-sister, or a Sister-Wife (a Beloved). I think it is very possible that the latter could be. This "fish-stone" business is a little confusing, but the most important thing to focus on is that something, whatever it is, is "reminding Him to know that He's glad." and of course, that is a very sad thing to say. I don't think that this song is angry, as someone mentioned before, but I do think it is very sad. Maybe Sufjan is lamenting the loss (and not through death or a fight; something more complicated) of this woman who, whatever their connection, He loves, and describing the little dreams that He has of being with her again, being able to show her things ("the sky"), and celebrate life with her ("I'll hit the earth with you"). The loving little details describing this "Sister", though they are things that a stranger could use to describe someone, indicate quite a bit of intimacy. They are intimate details for someone who knows you quite well to pick out, so they must be things that He particularly loves about her. this could be whether or not She is a lover or a family member. The "small hands", especially, is a very loving comment. All of this, however, is only my take. |

| Joanna Newsom – Cosmia Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I also can't stand the way she says the kith and the kin. and I love this song, think it's absolutely beautiful, but I hate how sharp her voice is at the start of each "and i miss your..." it hurts my ears. it's like glass breaking. in all actuality, her voice almost repelled me when I first listened to her. her music is beautiful, but she isn't blessed with a lovely voice. |

| Ooh! Such a song...I want to fall asleep but can't because it's just so pretty! And lovely words. | |
| Tilly and the Wall – Bad Education Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Oh, dear, I love this song. Especially the end...or maybe not. I don't know. It's all so good! But I didn't like it that much at first, either. But it's grand. | |
| The Fiery Furnaces – The Wayward Granddaughter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I don't know. I have never actually heard this song. My friend Becca was really anxious to tell SOMEone her opinion of this song - I volunteered. | |
| Elliott Smith – Satellite Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Oh, Elliott. What a genius. What stupidity of his... | |
| The Decemberists – Clementine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Oh, I know that. I was talking about the whole song, not just what I referred to in the sentence before what I said about poverty. I skip around like that. I apologize. | |
| Sufjan Stevens – We Are What You Say Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
My, my. I agree with what most here have said about what this song means, so I won't talk about that. Just love this song. And dance away, PemberleyTea! |

Becca say: It's a bad song. What's up with his voice? This CD sucks. I like the Fiery Furnaces, but I can't listen to the new CD. The End. That's all. |

| Sean Paul – Temperature Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Okay, I don't even care what you guys say because I typically don't listen to this kind of stuff at ALL and I still love this song...I have to admit the lyrics aren't too bright, but the beat's good and I happen to like it very much. So F. That's all. |

| Bright Eyes – Poison Oak Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I love this song. I love Bright Eyes. I love Conor Oberst. This song really gets to me, especially on the part about 'the end of paralysis'. I am going to keep my opinion on the meaning to myself on this one because it's probably not right. This song makes me want to sleep on the couch in my living room right under the air conditioner during a hot summer day. It's a lonely thing I do. |

| The Decemberists – From My Own True Love (Lost at Sea) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I love this song and it's so sad, but it's just not one of those songs that I can listen to all the time, you know? It kind of drags on, I guess, and that's alright with me because I love the song a lot, but I never find myself listening to the whole thing. I love how the Decemberists can make such happy, upbeat songs, and then they can make these heartbreaking songs quite like this that can have you sitting there, feeling the pain of an 80-year old woman (or man) who lost their true love and is still waiting...You get this terrible feeling like 'they're never coming back,' and that's a good song that can make you feel like that, even if it's sad. And to who said that it could be from either perspective, I thought that was pretty clever of you. Like that a lot. That's all. |

| The Decemberists – Eli, the Barrow Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song makes me pretty gloomy. I know it would be a traditionally sad story and all, but it doesn't make me sad, just puts me in a bad and gloomy mood. I think it's practically just another one of those ghost stories, and the story is the meaning itself, and it's pretty much spelled out. That's all. |

| Sufjan Stevens – Opie's Funeral Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Ahhhh!! The first time I heard this song I swear the whole world went Technicolor. It's so beautiful!! And I guess we all are reminded of something in our own lives because of a tune or the words in a song...And this one reminds me of a day when I flung my best friend's ashes in this park where we went. She killed herself, you know, and I had this intense feeling like I had set her free. I couldn't stop thinking of those lines, 'you make it beautiful, friend, you make it worth it to the end.' It fit so perfectly. It made me want to cry but not because I was sad. I don't really know why. It's just a feeling and that's the same as what I think this song is. In the end, it just becomes this inexplicable feeling. | |
| Arcade Fire – Crown of Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Ah, God I love the Arcade Fire so...It's so good! The music, and the voices, and the lyrics...It all gets to me. Anyhow, it's all pretty general stuff, I think. He wants to love this person but he doesn't, blah, blah, blah...The lyrics show he's torn and keeps going back and forth. He says he doesn't love this person anymore, maybe for that fear we always seem to have of being hurt, but he obviously does and is just trying to forget them. But their name is the only word that he can say... | |
| The Decemberists – We Both Go Down Together Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I used to listen to this song all the time but it kind of died out on me. I still love it and all but I just can't listen to it that much anymore. But I still love the end, 'meet me on my vast veranda' and that. I like that. | |
| The Decemberists – Clementine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Second verse is where it's at. That's my favorite part, when he sings about a house built from packaging foam and all. I'm quite certain it's involving poverty and whatnot but I just like to think of it as a sweet little thing that a child would come up with...Riding off after being married on bicycles with cans off the back...It's all so unreasonably sweet to me. | |
| The Decemberists – California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Love, love, love, love!this song so much. I didn't really like it at first but I simply am in love with it now. It's very good stuff. Not much else to say on my part, sorry. And props to whoever made that Catcher reference. | |

| The Decemberists – Billy Liar Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song makes me sort of cheerful. I love Colin's voice when he sings, 'he's a no good boy-o' and then, 'whalebone corset frame'. I love that New Englander sound of his. The song kind of makes me laugh to myself...Those first few lines...Anyhow, summer's eternity for me, I know that much. | |
| The Decemberists – A Cautionary Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Ah, gosh, didn't realize that there was a second page and here I am again and I swear I'll never comment again! | |
| The Decemberists – As I Rise Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Yeah, I don't really think that it requires any interpretation. I listen to this song in the morning on the way to school sometimes and it kind of makes me pretty happy. Great song. | |
| The Decemberists – A Cautionary Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I agree with those who say it's being taken too seriously...But I think it is, yes, quite obviously about prostitution but it's nothing to the point of heartbreaking or the like for me. Not my favorite by them, but a good enough song. | |

| Eisley – Trolley Wood Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is so adorable. I think it's nice how she says 'Hallelujah' after saying 'out one day with you' like it's such a wonderful thing to be with that person. I'm not really good with these meanings but that's just something I really like about this song. But I also agree with Geekette as far as having to face the real world after being stuck in oh, glorious and fake childhood. She wants to see it again but knows she'll never find it. | |
