this is one of my favorite, fff songs. For me its just about any friend, lover or not, moving away and losing touch with them. And whenever those people do go away you always seem to be relaying on them to call or come see you. But at the same time they might be thinking just the same thing about you. |

one of my favorites. its about someone never being there for moments. and at first the person thought it was their faught that they didn't want to be there and tried to do things to change it but now they realize that the person just isn't worth any of their time and energy |

I agree i think its more of a drug refrence. Like when its says morning saves me and morning takes her eyes. Its like the drug is wearing off and stuff again. |

I think like alot of people I really did not appriciate this song. I thought it was odd and unlike john's other work. Whenever it came up on my ipod at random i'd skip over it. But listen to it a couple times through and i promise somehow it gets instilled into your mind. Whenever I'm sitting around bored it just pops into my head. Not one of my favorite five for fighting songs, but you learn to love it as much as the rest |

| Five for Fighting – The Last Great American, New Last Verse (9/15/2001) Lyrics

I'm still young so i've been to few funnerals. one for my grandpop when i was little and one last year for something who changed my life. And these words are just like what was said at his. Not in this version but in the other one they say
"and the children gave their blessing, though the service weren't half done, each of them sued the other one, for the last great american."
At the funneral there were lots of kids because he was a young teacher who was very loved and none of us could keep from crying and hugging each other. I love the line.
"Here lies our Merry the man with the heart so spent
That in this day and age is sick of living"
its just such a good line |

| Stevie Wonder – Stay Gold Lyrics

This song rarely doesn't make me cry. It is the opening song for the outsiders, which is my favorite book of all time and the movie is right up there too. My teacher who read the book to me first died about a year ago and was only 32 so it was hard. But let me tell you the first time i heard this song after he died i cried like crazy. I have not yet found a song that better says just what his death meant. From start to end ever part reminds me of him.
"Seize upon that moment long ago One breath away and there you will be So young and carefree Again you will see That place in time...so gold"
Tells me that all i have to do is live and i'm going to be able to see him again. And i aged to much in one year that i was so young then and nothing seemed to matter.
The outsiders was dericted by francis ford coppola and the song was written by his father and then they asked stevie wonder to sing it. The meaning of the book is to stay gold. So the song ties in perfectly. Gold in the book is being a kid, young. If you like the song you should really check out the book and the movie. And if your not into that atleast give robert frost's poem "nothing gold can stay" a chance. It plays a key role in the book. |

wow this song what can i say..i don't listen to it so much anymore...but when i do it hits hard. My teacher died when he was 32 about a year ago. I'd always known it was his favorite song and he was truely the most amazing man i ever met. I knew of the song but never really listened to it. One day after he died i looked up the lyrics to it and begun to remember the tune. Just looking at the lyrics made me cry it was him in the song. Then i was watching a movie in my room when 100 years came on. I went from almost falling asleep do to the bordom of the movie to standing an inch away from the screen. I broke into tears and couldnl't stop.
Ofcourse everyone knows that this is about life and the journey through it and how fast it goes. But i believe in life we all have 100 years. No more of less. But its the way you live it that tells what a year is. Some believe it to be 12 months in a year. But no one lives like that. one day could be a year in your life while a year might not even count for a day of those 100 years. I believe that when my teacher was alive i lived that was 2 years and i feel like when he died i aged incredibly. This song inspires me in so many ways. |

Wow i love those words from quirky cutie, its so true its not so often we can state for ourselves whatever we want. its our actions that make people see who we are and that truely is our friends and enemies. wow i wish i could talk to john that would be amazing. I've only become a dedicated fan this year but that man is truely a hero to me with his words. |

This song basically says that we can do whatever we want in life, its our choice from start to finish. But as much as we may see a perfect picture nothing ever turns out perfect. Although not in the lyrics i love when he says can you dig it baby. I'm young so i never lived when people used dig it, but i constatley say it and people think i'm crazy. I love the let's start at the start, build a masterpiece. It shows that perfect picture in life |

wow what can i say this song makes me feel like i'm not the only one who feels like i do. I lost someone who ment a lot to me and it was not until i heard this song after he died that all the emotions i was feeling were some what put straight. "It's the same old story of love and glory that broke before it bent" this reminds me so much of him he inspired so many and he was so young when he died we didn't even have time to say goodbye he just died, broke.
This song so well explains the first emotion when losing someone. that first line makes me shiver cause it reminds me of the first time i woke up and had not one thing i was thinking about but him and just started crying. To write a song like this and all of john's others takes a gift a very unique gift. John is such an amazing man. And one thing the person i lost name was john too. |

here's another constant reminder of why i love FFF. At a young age i feel like i understand things different than anyone when in reality i know we all feel the same way we just don't all show it. It's almost eveyday that i think about existance and what it all means.
THe lines "there are secrets that we still have left to find" "there have been mysteries from the beginning of time" "there are answers were not wise enough to see"...its true that many things can't be answered but everyone still tries to find those answers cause they want to know the reason for themselves.
and it makes the refrence to dylan songs because they are filled with meaning and love and in the song the man is asking the other man a common question what the meaning for the world is. |

wow at first i didn't like this song, but i realized i just wasn't listening to it..once i listened i loved it much like all of the FFF songs. It reminds me of losing someone i really cared about and how it wasn't till after they went that i realized how much i loved them. You don't think about things until you have too or really want to. |

I can't believe no ones commented this. Everyone of FFF's albums has one song that's just upbeat and makes you wanna smile. In the battle for everything i think its disneyworld. In Two lights its johnny america. Its just a great song about when no one believes there's always someone cheering you on believeing in everything. |

The outsiders is by far my favorite book of all time. My teacher read it to me when i was in 6th grade and i can never get enough of it. This song is what made me a fan of the kids and the song makes so much sense to the book. Every line has something to do with it in some way.
...I'll cry until I can't see the whites of your eyes for two more years...
In the book they always say how white johnny's eyes get when he's scared. I read this book all the time especially since this year the guy who read the book to me died. So instead of just loving the book it is more like a gift to read it now. But I was just thinking the other night about this song cause I hadn't listened to it for a while. And thinking about the song and my teacher and the book made me cry. THey say for two more years in the book and that was werid cause my teacher died two years after i had him. And at his funneral they said almost the same things that are in the song. His friend said how he was always looking for an adventure and running around the would looking for better ground and skies. This song is my favorite song and I love all the meaning of it. |
