Could this song be any sadder? The lyrics, the music, so very poignant. I agree with most people,

We tied them into knots
And finally fly apart
We had to cut them off
That part sums it up beautifully. Two people that need to go their own separate ways but in order to do so need to remove themselves from each other entirely ie can't be friends. So sad. |

Their is an obvious friendship element to the song. Does anyone get the feeling the first verse is about 2 friends who accidently stepped over the 'friendship' line? 'We'll make a pact to never speak that word again, yes you are my friend'. Perhaps that word was Love? |

I think it's about a guy who really wants a girl, doesn't have her yet.
"the day you (make your move) I'm probably going to explode" Have you ever liked some one so much and then they move in close to you and you feel like you're just going to explode :D? its a good feeling.
But then there is uncertaintly. "if no one (makes a move) then nobody's going to get hurt" Dont we all know this; to start something with someone is risky, and a relationship will almost always end in hurt.
But he wants her, and is clearly desperate 'if you want to use my body go for it!'

I think the above makes a lot of sense. Its very un-muse yes but they get away with it so darn well! Its is a vvverrry sexy song as someone above said. Very danceable. I really dont see it as selling out, i dont think the commercial stations played it, yet some of them played Starlight. And yeah i kinda see Starlight and SMBH as very related, there are such obvious lyrical connections. Its cool how they are so connected yet so musically different. Ahhh i love muse :D. |

I agree with some of most things everyone has said! The vampire idea i had never thought of, and while i'm not sure if that was the intended meaning of the song it's very clever.
I beleive the song is about a guy who is 'just friends' with a girl and is trying to work up the courage to tell her. Things are going really well for them but he just can't work up the nerve to tell her. I think 'my actions are dictated by the phase of the moon' is him giving an excuse for why he can't tell her he likes her right now, ie the moon is not in the right position, guess i'd better wait till it is. Then when he finally works up the nerve to tell her it's too late, the good times have gone and she's found someone else.
Anyway thats m interpretation, and on reading it over i've realised i interpret it that way because exactly the same thing happened to me :( |

A really nice simple love song with kick arse music that's like a breath of fresh air (unless you were alive in the sixties, then you'd probably think the music was nothing that hadn't been done before). Lyrics are simple and yes a little idealogical, its hard to beleive such a person exists. But its nice all the same. |

I think it is certainly about certain governments and certain wars, keeping in theme with a lot of the songs on this CD.
Please end this before it ends us... if this world situation doesn't end... heck the WMD's that seem so well hidden might just appear.

This song really helped me through a tough time. I think sometimes we christians believe that if ppl walk all over you, you should just sit back and take it. You are doing the person no favours by letting them exploit you. Infact, you are condoning their behaviour. There is nothing wrong with standing up and saying "You do this, it hurts me, please don't. Its killing me" The person may take this on board and be a better person for it. Thats what i think! |

Anywho onto the song. Why have so many ppl said 'oh this is me and my significant others song?' This song breaks my heart. I don't find it romantic... its seems to be about someone who is head over heals in love, but the guy she's in love with just wont stick around, but she's in love non the less. This song is just wonderful. Yes i also think its about Jesus walking about in modern day america, abserving how his name is misused.
I like the line "They drop your name, but no one knows your face." To me this is about the American (and Australian as the case may be) politicians who claim to be christian and then go around blowing up innocent people. "Love your enemy"???? What ever happened to that? Makes me so angry.
"Lights come on as you lay your weary head on their lawn." Christians are meant to help the poor, but if a homeless man was lying on my lawn, would i let him in? Paraphrased bible quote "Whatever you do to the least of you, you also do to me". I think thats what the line is about. |

Wow. Pete Murray has finally done it. He's finally written a really great song. Don't get me wrong, i enjoy parts of the first ablum but there were some bland bits. and even the good bits were lacking something. But opportunity really hits the spot.

Ok wtf someone said a few comments ago that morning view is about recovering from a drug addiction... then told us all to 'get our facts straight'.... i am a HUGE incubus fan and i know a lot of the background behind the recording of morning view and i've never heard anything even remotely similar to it being about brandon overcoming a habit.
Why do early incubus freaks pick out morning view as the album incubus sold out? Stellar and i miss you from make yourself are two of the most disgustingly soppy songs i've ever heard. and you can't exactly head bang to drive... yet early incubus fans seem to think make yourself is ok. It don't make no sense! |

I never really knew what this was about but yeah the anorexia thing makes a lot of sense. I always saw this song as being about someone who is participating in some form of self destructive behaviour, i interpreted it as being 'getting in with the wrong crowd' and about how her friends felt having to watch her go down that path, and abandoning them, 'turn a blind eye to all the faces that you know' ie not accepting help from anyone. i think that makes sense with the anorexia context. And (as was suggested) i don't think Katie actually drowned, i think its more a comment on her finding something harmful to absorb herself in, ie not eating. anyway thats my opinion! |

I was horrified the first time i heard this song! Then i listened to it properly and realised that its one big arse sattire and was very releived. Anyway, all the Ben Folds fans understand this... but does it piss everyone else off that the teeny boppers think that Ben is truely whinging about being male middle classed and white? The vast majority of my friends i've questioned don't see any irony in this song. I think that's ironic in itself.

Wow. This is the best example i have ever heard of a song being incredibly sad and saying 'everything feels so bad' without being emo! It can be done and this song proves it beautifully.
This song really hits home to me. It really awful when everything that kept you strong is no longer with you, for one reason or another. And you can't sit around and wallow in it, you must move on. But it hurts so much, every single day its with you, a dull but constant ache.

This song will always remind me of a gil who was one of my best friends... she sotle my gi=uy, the mole. Anyway, she was really really beautiful but it turned out that this really selfish part of her that made her think it was ok to go around stealing other ppl's guys... and because of this she kept losing friend after friend. "You are beautiful but you're not going anywhere". She just kept lying to me and lying to me and i kept forgiving her "I swear i've heard this song before, a swimmer who has seen a shark i really should be more wary of the water."
Anyway this chick was the best actress. Me and my friends thought she was great for ages. She had everyone convinced. And then she lied and hurt every single on of us... "You came, you saw you conquered everyone".
And all the lies i'd always discover the truth and then she'd say 'i didn't think you'd care". Did you think i wouldn't notice? Did you really think i wouldn't care?
And i know that she's now gone on and has started fooling a new group of people BEWARE! CRIMINAL!!!!
Anyway i'll stop boring you with the whole situation but this song really told the whole situation so well! |

Ok, if you listen to JJJ as i think everyone should, lol, you would have heard the interview with missy about her songs. When Missy got unearthed by JJJ, she had a lot of record labels interested in her. This song is about two of the record ppl she worked with (one male and one female, which explains that, NOT about her sexuality). She said that they were interested in her music, but wanted to change her image into something more 'marketable'. But then she quit them all and went overseas for a year, came back and did things her way, as herself, not a phony. Hence the line 'Doesn't that make you shiver, the way things could have gone?' As in she could have been just another plastic pop star had she gone along with the people mentioned in the verses. This is what missy says its about so i'm pretty sure its true! |
