Incubus – New Skin Lyrics 19 years ago
Christ_0808,

This song is about society, silly. I advice you to ," see past what covers the surface."

"when will we be new skin" we = humanity

Maybe if you would "stop and take a look" "you'll see what I see now."

System of a Down – Thetawaves Lyrics 19 years ago
evirus is right about "PEOPLE"

great song... wish i could break down the meaning well enought to articulate. *sighes*

this is the best line... hope for the future it is
"... then the people found out the lie"

Candlebox – You Lyrics 19 years ago
The drug part of the song is obvious... it is the perspective that is interesting.

You = the world.
I = that which resides in the heart
Door = your heart, so open it.

@ Iniquity Symptom
Maybe Dave had an idea what would happen. Maybe he is making up for his own mistakes.

@ All
Maybe any song that speaks about relationships can be seen as a song from humanity to humanity, if that makes any sense. (One example: From the poeple to the goverments. )

Slipknot – Duality Lyrics 19 years ago
You cannot kill what you did not create. Religion.

I've gotta say what I've gotta say
And then I swear I'll go away
But I can't promise you'll enjoy the noise

To the fans, get over it.

NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS! Wake up.

Duality. Open your eye and forget your eyes. Yin and Yang has been misunderstood ever since Lao Tze was made to write his words.

Duality. Religion.

Alice in Chains – No Excuses Lyrics 19 years ago
I tend to search for a broader meaning to the songs than one person thinking about himself, and maybe a single other.

May be it could be taken, as the struggle between rich and poor. Though it would be a chalenge to try to match all the symbols. I still think that most of people's words could be taken into broader context.

This point of view can be easily dismissed, so challenege you to do otherwise.

Avenged Sevenfold – Beast and the Harlot Lyrics 19 years ago
Q: "What does this song mean to you?"

T: The first part gets your attension then they hit you with a personal descion. The descion that needs to be answered by individuals on a daily basis, ( meaning you can't just answer it once ), until our feet leave the ground.

"There's more than meets the eye round here look to the waters of the deep." ( http://www.ocean.udel.edu/extreme2001/mission/location/trench.html )

Black Sabbath – Iron Man Lyrics 19 years ago
I expect you'll burn me for this one.

i say if that is how the movie goes maybe the writer knew about this document.

http://www.hiddenmysteries.com/freebook/thoth/thothtoc.html

By the words of this document, Thoth was the world's first great teacher, and he created religion, which he later deemed as a mistake. The "looking into the future and trying to save us" bit fits." One woould have to invert a bit of the lyrics or concider them harsh exaggerations. It just reminded me of the aboce document.

White Zombie – More Human Than Human Lyrics 19 years ago
You guys aren't going to like this... but i say that the fans often misunderstand the artist... and that the artist helps to create this, in order to reach those who want to hear something different and new, and send a message at the same time.

What man doesn't want to make a difference somehow? Hitler was evil yet he believed he was doing "God's work."

I say that artists may appear to me evil like or dark to reach the fans. Hitler premoted himself as a the good guy to "His People."

Referencing to Bladerunner means that he must have an interest in the betterment of humanity. Watch the movie, that seems to be what he wants to say.

Rush – Tom Sawyer Lyrics 19 years ago
OMG why do poeple bash bands when the should be posting on the meaning of the song... take it elsewhere. thank you.

I think we all could be a Tom Sawyer, and would be better off aiming to be. I think that is the reason for telling us about "today's Tom Sawyer."

"His mind is not for rent to any god or government."
Forget the institutions. Sprituality or religion or policy is in your "mean mean stride," not in the institutions.

Nine Inch Nails – Every Day Is Exactly the Same Lyrics 19 years ago
like thatredhotsong posted before me, it reminds me of 1984. I would like to add that "hiding by hind something they won't look behind" reminded me of the guy trying to write in his notebook out side the view of the telescreene. I would say that Trent could easily represent Winston Smith in that he is being watched by you.

Blondie – Rapture Lyrics 19 years ago
Stranger from a Strange Planet by Robert A. Heinlein was first published in 1961. But who knows if Blondie could have read it before publishing. It is possible, even if very unlikely.

I don't know much about Blondie... I just read the lyrics cause of the song title. I was looking Rapture by Hurt.

It reminds me of "Stranger from a Strange Planet" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0441790348/104-1837774-2486363?v=glance&n=283155
It was about a man known to the world as the "Man from Mars." He was human. Most of the symbols seem to click. I don't know if she could have read it before writing those lyrics, though.

Rob Zombie – Foxy Foxy Lyrics 19 years ago
Not only did i think of Gulliver's Travels, I thought of the Herald of Valdimar. Also I think Rob was being vague and avoiding some of his motives. He = possessor. She = possessed. How could this not be about sex? Yet i challenge the lister/reader to broaden the term sex to the act of creation. I think asking the listener if they want to ride educated horses is a call for social change broader than simply using new words. Corrective thinking leads to corrective action.
