| Gillian Welch – Leaving Train Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I LOVE this song, one of my favorite Gillian Welch songs - I looked up these lyrics on another site and some lyrics were different. Instead of 'And the breathless hours, on the sleeping plane' it said it was "And the breathless house, on the sleeping plain" And I much prefer the latter, I think it makes a lot more sense. |

| Yo La Tengo – Stupid Things Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
No comments?!?! This song is amazing Okay so Yo la Tengo give me such a nostalgic feeling - but not really nostalgic for anything specific thing I've experienced - they remind me of the autumn time, how crisp and clear the air outside is, especially at night, streetlights, quiet suburbia, someone's really really comfortable basement or den, a hazy party, etc etc No other band makes me feel this and I might not be their biggest fan or know all their songs, but I love them !! |

| Connie Converse – Man in the Sky Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
If I commented on all her songs I'd literally just say the same thing - I think she is/was a truly gifted songwriter. What I love about her most is her lyrics are so well crafted, so interesting and so beautiful. Songwriting really doesn't get better than this and it's sad that she's not well known. |

| Connie Converse – How Sad, How Lovely Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This is one of the greatest songs, seriously so beautiful. Thank you for uploading these lyrics because there were some I couldn't make out and I was dying to know what they were. "And the lights going on in the shops and the bars, and the lovers looking for the first little stars. Like life, like a smile, like the fall of a leaf, how sad, how lovely, how brief." Perfect. |

| The National – I Need My Girl Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I'm almost positive the real lyrics are "45 percenter then" | |
| The National – Hard to Find Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I love this song so much, probably my favorite from the new album. Great imagery, beautiful lyrics. It's funny some people say it reminds them of the Great Gatsby, I'm from LI and it reminds me of the shores in summer. For me it's about someone you broke up with and you know the relationship could never really work out, maybe you don't even love them anymore but the memories and what you shared are so vivid and you think back about this person and it just makes you wonder | |

One of my favorite lines of all time: "it was so clear to me, that it was almost invisible" doesn't get much better/truer than that |

| The National – Apartment Story Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I've always seen this song as a more positive one than [most of] the rest of Boxer. To me it's simply about a couple maybe moving in/living together, and the little things that come between them, stupid fights/annoying habits, etc., but deep down they really love each other, "Worry not, all things are well, we'll be alright". I love that part. I also love the "rosey-minded fuzz" line. It captures the feeling of staying in with your significant other, an introverted kind of comfort, on the couch, watching movies, listening to music, a very warm feeling. That's actually the feeling mostThe National songs give me, even if they're sad. | |
| Kate Bush – How to Be Invisible Lyrics | 13 years ago |

This is one of my favorite Kate Bush songs, the lyrics are brilliant really. "Hem of anorak Stem of wallflower Hair of doormat Is that the wind from the desert song? Is that the autumn leaf falling? Or is that you walking home?" |

| Neko Case – Vengeance is Sleeping Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
She loves someone who isn't necessarily a good person, they're the type to 'love' others just because they can, devoid of anything emotional attachment or sentiment, they need someone there so they won't feel nothing - "Your easy loves you keep like pets, denied them you are powerless, whatever keeps you sleeping through the night." ... I know somebody just like that I also love the line, "You're the one that I still miss, and it's ruthless that it comes as no surprise", so amazing and I feel like everyone can relate to it some point |

| Neko Case – Prison Girls Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I love the end with the repetition of "I love your long shadows and your gunpowder eyes" with the piano. | |
| Japandroids – The House That Heaven Built Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| i love this song. it makes me want to move but also cry at the same time, it has such a great, inspiring, bittersweet energy. i can also deeply relate. i see it as a guy who's relationship has ended, and he still loves the person, he's 'free' now, he has to be, move on, "i must live", but he knows that no other person will match up to that one person, as can be seen in the line, "when they love you, and they will, tell them all they'll love in my shadow", and then at the end of the song comes the slight change to "when they love me, and they will, i'll tell them all they'll love in your shadow" - it's bittersweet because they moved on for unknown reasons but nothing will compare to what they had. | |
| The National – Brainy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I love this song, I mean obviously the meaning changes from person to person, but for me I've always just looked at this song (and a lot of their other songs) as being in love with someone who either is losing their feelings for you/unrequited love. I don't see it as a happy or hopeful song, and I don't see the "hanging by the end of your coat" line, or any of their other songs as stalker-ish, but moreso as sort of, for lack of a better word, clingy. I think the guy in this song just really likes the girl and wants to be with her all the time. "You'll never believe me, what I found, think I better follow you around" - in relationships you share little things with one another, he finds this something and wants to share it with her - he knows she doesn't really care, and may even be annoyed by his presence, he's fully aware of this attachment he has, but follows her anyway. "Everywhere you go is swirling, everything you say has water under it" and "I keep your fingerprints in a pink folder on the middle of my tangle (I always thought it was 'table'), your the tall kingdom I surround" - he's completely infatuated with her, everything she says means something, its just what its like to be in love. I also think "You might need me more than you think you will" is more of a knowing that this girl doesn't have the same feelings for him, but he hopes that she'll soon come upon a realization and return those feelings again, though that won't likely happen. And then the, "Come on in the car you love, brainy brainy brainy" - the way a couple comes to love their home together, or their pet or something, I always pictured the car being like that, a leisurely activity, the car they've come to know they can escape with, even if only for a drive around town or something. That's the way it is for me, sometimes you just want to get out and even though you're not going to some thrilling faraway destination, the drive itself is strangely exciting, and always a bit romantic (to me), which sounds kind of lame typing it out like that haha. And then the 'brainy' part - which I think is interesting compared to "Slow Show" where he sings: "I wanna hurry home to you, put on a slow, dumb, show for you, and crack you up". I always picture him being kinda doofy, sort of aloof, but his love is strong, and she being smart, pretty and, in his eyes, perfect. In this song I've always thought of 'Brainy' as a sort of nickname or term of endearment or something. Maybe even sort of cold, thinks more with her head and not with her heart, whereas he is the opposite. "You keep changing your fancy, fancy mind, every time, I decide, to let go". He tries to forget her, or at least attempt to move on, but she's stringing him along almost. She makes him feel good though, he wants her to ''put a blue ribbon on his brain''.. I love the album "Boxer" - I definitely see it as a take on a faltering/failing relationship. And then 'High Violet" I see as after the relationship has ended. That's how I always sort of separate those two albums anyway. |

| Wild Nothing – Bored Games Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| i love this song | |
| Joanna Newsom – Baby Birch Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I definitely don't think this song is about an abortion. In previous comments, its been mentioned (particularly from 'On a Good Day') that she dreamed/expected of having another life, maybe before a break up or some other life changing event, she had all these expectations, especially a baby (Right down to what we'd name her) and we do know Joanna has a great love for children, as can be seen in Esme, as well - I think this song is more in the vein of imagining having a child, the love for even the idea of it. I don't think this song is straightforward fact, either, I think it's similiar to other songs like Have One On Me and Soft As Chalk, where she kind of takes an idea and plays around with it, I think she does the same thing here. Its kind of her imagining having a child, "(Your eyes are green, your hair is gold, your hair is black, your eyes are blue), what it would be like, having the child taken from her, | |
| Gillian Welch – I Dream A Highway Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This song definitely has some of my favorite lyrics ever, particularly the title and the verse: "Sunday morning at the diner Hollywood trembles on the verge of tears I watched the waitress for a thousand years Saw a wheel inside a wheel, heard a call within a call I dreamed a highway back to you" Absolutely perfect |

| Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Hysteric Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| beautiful song, and beautiful imagery of lights and dancefloor | |
| Joanna Newsom – Peach, Plum, Pear Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think that the opening verse: We speak in the store I'm a sensitive bore You seem markedly more And I'm oozing surprise Basically explains the whole idea of the song pretty well. I think it's about being lonely and just noticing people around you. I can relate to it - just being in a store or out in public you notice someone and they catch your eye and you want them to stay, you want them to talk to you and your interested in them, but you're too shy and they leave and you'll never see them again. I think this song is about that kind of moment, and the short aftermath - imagining what you'd do with them/where you'd go/what'd you'd do, etc. Being blue, being sad, being lonely and all that. |

| Björk – All Is Full of Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"That song's from a moment when I'd had a pretty rough winter and then it was a spring morning and I walked outside and the birds were singing: Spring is here! I wrote the song and recorded in half a day. It just clicked - you know: you're being too stubborn, don't be so silly, there is love everywhere. The feeling, the emotion of the song was like completely melting and loving everything and feeling like everything loved you, after a long time of not having that. The song, in essence, is actually about believing in love. Love isn't just about two persons, it's everywhere around you. Even if you're not getting love from Person A, it doesn't mean there's not love there. Obviously, it's taking the piss too - it's the most sugary song ever. 'All Is Full Of Love' was written after the rest of Homogenic, which I'd wanted to be an aggressive, macho album. In Icelandic mythology, you have this saga where the Gods get aggressive and the world explodes and everything dies and then the sun comes up and everything starts all over again. It's the last track on Homogenic after 'Pluto' which stands for death. 'All Is Full Of Love' is like the birds coming out after a thunderstorm. In a way, in my head, 'All Is Full Of Love' is the first song on Vespertine." - Bjork "I guess waking up after having been in Spain for six months in the mountains...with few people. It was kind of solitary. And it was April, and I had to walk in the morning...around the mountains. And spring just kicked in. It was definitely nature-inspired. On a more personal level. It's about when you have been too stubborn about giving love to one particular direction... you expect it back ...like it's a bank or something. And kind of realizing that it's up to you what you give, but it's not up to you what you are given and where from." -Bjork.com webchat, 22 june 2000 |
