| Bright Eyes – We Are Nowhere and It's Now Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think this song is about living in modern times, the 21st century -- all the uncertainty and isolation and surreal aspects that we all experience to some degree or another. It's also a very personal song about Connor's experiences touring, living, and loving I think. Great stuff | |
| Matthew Good – The Boy Who Could Explode Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is incredible... I think it's about someone who's had a shitty life and on the verge of like snapping and killing people or doing something stupid or something, and it's sung from the point of view of someone egging him on that knows he won't actually do it? but that could be way off |

| Silversun Pickups – Surrounded (Or Spiraling) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is mesmerizing. I'm quite sure it's about a couple that is going through bad times/falling apart but trying to keep it together. There is a lot of evidence for this in the lyrics. The "Remember..." lines are talking about when they met/were still totally into each other The rest of the lines are a commentary on the current (sad) state of their relationship. ("is it perfect in our little hell" = they're acting like everything's ok when it's not; "romanticize our beloved memories" = let's hang onto the past; "can we get behind distortion and liberties" = can we just pretend it's all good?, etc.) He's surrounded, because they feel like they're in so deep they can't get out and they're both acting like it's all good. I think that's definitely the meaning. |

| The Raconteurs – Consoler of the Lonely Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Specifically - Capitalism's theory's probably dead on. Generally - I think what we're supposed to take away from this is "life sucks, and no one cares about your problems". |
| Goldfrapp – A&E Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In fact, wikipedia has just kindly informed me that her middle name is Elizabeth. So maybe A&E could even refer to herself... "surrounded by me A&E" "I hoped you'd see me A&E" |
| Goldfrapp – A&E Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| maybe A&E = accident & emergency, but also A&E = Allison (that's her name) & E____ (the guy from the song)? Or did I just blow your minds? | |
| Peter Bjorn and John – Objects of My Affection Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this song is amazing. | |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Venice Queen Lyrics | 18 years ago |
read the wikipedia article on this song and the meaning is right there. it's about kiedis's drug counsellor Gloria, who died during the recording of the album, so they wrote this song about her. |
| Muse – Map of the Problematique Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is amazingly intense, I love it. Especially awesome is the driving drum bridge around the 2:15 mark. I agree with the people above on the meaning, about the theme of unrequited love. |
| The White Stripes – You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
WHAT SONG(S) DOES THIS SOUND LIKE? Seriously, I think the riffs are completely ripped from somewhere. Anywho, I like the song... It's a girlfriend/boyfriend, or just a friend, lecturing a guy/girl about their relationship with their significant other - telling them they can't just say/act like they love someone when they really don't. I've gotten this exact talk from one of my friends actually, lol. So I definitely can relate. BUT SERIOUSLY, what's this a rip off of? |
| Interpol – The Heinrich Maneuver Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| lol first time i heard this song on the radio, I thought it was the Killers (given the fact that the radio seems to love them so much in recent months). anyone else notice a similarity in the sound or am i totally insane? | |
| Against Me! – Thrash Unreal Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I never knew the band before, so this song introduced me to them. I think it's really good, haven't found the reinventing axl rose album yet but when i do i'll definitely get it. the song meaning is pretty much all right there... the one question is, is the song praising her lifestyle or criticizing her? |

| The Strokes – Reptilia Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Alright, so we know that "the title reptilia refers to the "reptilian brain," the central part of your brain that handles basic emotions such love and hate." Now this could be way off, but I always think of the chorus part as this instinctive, fast-paced, reptilian brain "talking" to the more logical, conscious brain, as the more primitive, instinctive brain is "taking over", maybe during a night of partying?: I said please don't slow me down If I'm going too fast You're in a strange part of our town... Yeah, the night's not over You're not trying hard enough, Our lives are changing lanes You ran me off the road, The wait is over I'm now taking over, You're no longer laughing I'm not drowning fast enough. in particular, the lines I said please don't slow me down If I'm going too fast You're in a strange part of our town... and You ran me off the road, The wait is over I'm now taking over make me think of this image of the constant struggle between rationality and instinct. Just my weird thought for the day. |
| Silversun Pickups – Three Seed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
so.. mellow.. I like it. I'm quite confused about the meaning though. I think it's about feeling of loss.. "the sums don't add up at all", "no thought of him as it was done a clean execution". Hard to say though. |

| Rage Against the Machine – Testify Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The line that really got to me, simply because of the raw truth of it, was We found your weakness And its right outside your door The weakness of course being our cars, our gas tanks. Many of us talk the big talk about creating a better world, myself included, but would we give up even a bit of our standard of living to achieve that? Sadly, most of us would not. This is definitely our weakness. Awesome song. I'm glad rage is back together. |

| Ill Scarlett – One-A Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Fantastic stuff. Anyone else feel like this band is gonna be huge? | |
| Matthew Good Band – Strange Days Lyrics | 19 years ago |
You need only watch the video to see what this song is about. The video and the song tell the same story, basically. At the same time, it's also about anyone who feels depressed and disconnected from themselves and the people in their lives, and is on the verge of giving up. |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – This Velvet Glove Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Your solar eyes are like Nothing I have ever seen Somebody close That can see right through So cool. Anyways. This is definitely a song about drugs. Perhaps a relationship being ruined by his drug problem? Either way, perhaps the best RHCP chorus, anyone with me? |
| Dave Matthews Band – Ants Marching Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song (Dave's best) is about how we in modern society go through our lives like ants, repeating our routines and growing more and more distant from the people around us. I think the key lines of the song are really Take these chances Place them in a box until a quieter time Lights down, you up and die This is saying that there's all these chances we could take and ambitions or goals we have, but we just keep putting them off until we have the time, or the money, or the security to do them ("Place them in a box until a quieter time"). But that time never seems to come, and before we know it we, well, "up and die", and never get to do what we want. It's a scathing indictment of conformity, and a kickass song. |

| OK Go – Here It Goes Again Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Shockingly catchy, pop-rock at its best. Video is so sweet and funny too. | |
| The Strokes – You Only Live Once Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| With such incredible guitar riffs, who CARES about the meaning? | |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Wet Sand Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song has grown on me a lot since I got the album - probably my fave right now. | |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Storm in a Teacup Lyrics | 19 years ago |
DisasterArea: it's not "heavens to murder Troy", it's "heavens to Murgatroid", which was apparently the catchphrase of an old cartoon character named Snagglepuss. As for the song itself - I'm likin' it, I must say. One of the best on Stadium Arcadium, and very catchy. |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication Lyrics | 19 years ago |
After listening to all of Stadium Arcadium quite a few times, I conclude: This is still the best RHCP song ever. Stadium Arcadium is still pretty freakin sweet though. Pick it up if you haven't. |

| Eve 6 – Arch Drive Goodbye Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| but not forgotten. | |
| Eve 6 – Arch Drive Goodbye Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Oh yeah, definitely the best song on the album; I like how it builds up in volume and tempo. As for meaning - about a guy who broke up with a girl who has some emotional problems (maybe a drinking problem), and knows it was the right thing to do, but still misses her. That's my take on it. Fitting name for the last song on Eve 6's last CD too... "Arch Drive Goodbye" - they played their last goodbye show under the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. So sad, I've always thought of this band as kind of the gold standard for all rock/punk-pop bands, a genre that I'm not usually that in to, but they just do it so WELL! Goodbye Eve 6, you'll be missed. |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dani California Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Stadium Arcadium is gonna, as the kids say, roxxor my soxxors. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – 1979 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is one of my favourite songs in the world. I'm sure it means different things to different people, but to me it's a song about a snapshot in time; specifically, that surreal moment when you realize that your life is about to change - that you're growing up, ready or not. It's about being lost and directionless as you face the unknown future "and i don't even care to shake these zipper blues and we don't know just where our bones will rest to dust i guess forgotten and absorbed into the earth below" but yet in a way it's a hopeful song, about limitless possibilities. I've always kind of equated it to those long summer nights just hanging out with friends and driving around and stuff, the summer after high school, before a lot of us went our different ways - to me, it captures that experience perfectly. |
