| Jens Lekman – A Sweet Summer's Night On Hammer Hill Lyrics | 19 years ago |

"Regulate" actually came out in 1994. I like the purposefully wrong date. It adds to the idea that he's wistfully recalling the past. Not to mention that this song is just plain fun. |

| Camera Obscura – Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Yeah, the song is a response to Lloyd Cole, some 20 years later. I'm pretty sure that it's a commentary on his snobbery. "Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken" was a pretty pretentious song calling for an intellectual revolution. With the chorus' second line, she's cleverly calling Cole out. I take "can't see further than my own nose at this moment" to mean that you're always looking down your nose at everyone. So, the chorus has the jist of "yeah, Lloyd, I'll join you in your intellectual revolution because I'm stuck up too." It's very sneaky insult since the rest of the song really isn't related to Cole. They just managed to slide in the reference without being too obvious or annoying. It's great. They also managed to make another unannoying, clever music reference on this album with Dory Previn. |

| Antony and the Johnsons – Fistful of Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Every song should open with a spoke word intro by Lou Reed. That's all I've got to say. | |
| The Lucksmiths – Sunlight In A Jar Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I suppose libretto would work, but there's a very distinct V sound. I even asked friends because I thought I was going crazy, since all the lyric sites say libretto. Everyone I've asked also hears the V. | |
| Pretty Girls Make Graves – Parade Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I love the groove of this song. Very well done, and very very catchy. A bit unexpected from Pretty Girls Make Graves, but they really pull it off. Not so sure about the rest of the album, though. :( | |

I know that all the other lyric sites say otherwise, but I think it's "overblown vibrato", not "libretto". I distinctly hear a v sound. And vibrato (a quality of singing) makes more sense than libretto (the text of an opera), when being used with the adjective "overblown". At least I think so. |

| Super Furry Animals – Play It Cool Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| These are not at all the right lyrics. These are the lyrics to "Presidential Suite" from Rings Around the World. Not "Play It Cool". | |
| The Lucksmiths – Broken Bones Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think when they say: "When the streetlights shine And it looks like Christmas" It's referring to the lights of Christmas, not at all the weather. If things were very bright and sparkly (i.e. the "footpath glistens"), it probably reminded him of Christmas lights. Because it certaintly isn't spring time, or cold during an Australian Christmas! Otherwise, their cultural references are often mixed. They have some songs that are talk about American things, and some about Australian. That's sort of changed over time, as they've spent more time in America. |

I completely agree. They managed to rhyme the words "guessing" and "acquiescing" without it sounding pretentious or forced. If that isn't pop song-writing brilliance, I don't know what is. I've never understood why people don't seem to catch on to these guys. They're delightful. |
