The Cars – All Mixed Up Lyrics 9 years ago
the woman in the relationship is socially important, cagey and elusive, unreachable emotionally...yet also reassuring/placating...leave it to me, everything will be all right...

Bob Dylan – She Belongs to Me Lyrics 9 years ago
"you are a walking antique"... i think that might've been the Dylan equivalent of "you're so yesterday"

transformation is often represented as death, i think you could be right.

Bob Dylan – Simple Twist of Fate Lyrics 9 years ago
no, because that would defeat the premise of a simple twist of fate if he went looking for her at the outset.

Wolf Parade – You Are A Runner And I Am My Father's Son Lyrics 10 years ago
i see it as a relationship: she tends to run away from relationships, while his problem is that he is like his father... and it's the summation of the all the issues for them in this relationship. agree with the interpretation of "hero in the morning" being the narrator being close to his father and then losing that connection as time went on.

also: faithless in the theme as well.

The National – Graceless Lyrics 10 years ago
there is a running theme... "God loves everyone," grace, white roses, "saves us." i think it's a complicated idea involving forgiveness and shame. that he's having trouble overcoming something that happened to him, or that he's done. and there's isolation and medication to try to ease the pain.

Modest Mouse – Black Cadillacs Lyrics 10 years ago
i think this was a great interpretation. one thought about "we named our children after towns we'd never been to" which strikes me as wistful: it's almost gives a sense of belonging once removed, if that makes sense, or wanting to belong to a place removed from where you actually are...and that by naming your children after those places, it's a projection in at least a couple different ways: projecting your children into the world and perhaps closer to that "place", projecting that sense of discontentment on them in a way that they can never ignore in the here and now.

Elvis Costello – Deep Dark Truthful Mirror Lyrics 10 years ago
i think this is about a close female friend. he's trying to spare her feelings, as she chases after hopeless situations, one after another. she's deluded herself about the man she's after, about her own intentions, and whatever drives her. she's trying to delude others, too.

Interpol – Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down Lyrics 10 years ago
Stella is in a bad relationship. she takes a risk to be with the narrator. for whatever reason she seems to be trapped in the relationship (marriage, whatever) and cannot make the complete break.

Talking Heads – Burning Down the House Lyrics 11 years ago
thank you. man, so many of these "interpretations" are so off! but this was great and succinct.

Tame Impala – Mind Mischief Lyrics 11 years ago
i thought you were doing ok until you said, "Now he just wants it to stop the mind fuck so he's telling her to go find 'Mr.Right' who it seems isn't him. " he's asking her to go with "Mr Right," himself.

i think this song is about the way you can feel mislead and confused, mixed signals, missed connections.

The Rolling Stones – Let It Loose Lyrics 11 years ago
my take on it is that this is about being in love with someone who, at the end of the day, you know you can't maintain a relationship with. and being with someone else just to kill the time, feeling that desolate loneliness all the while. to me, "Let it loose/let it all come down" is about letting the hurt, the passion, the loneliness all flow.

St. Vincent – Cheerleader Lyrics 11 years ago
i agree generally, but in the role of a cheerleader one is always on the sidelines and never in the game. not so much on a pedestal, however. great interpretation nonetheless!
