It really doesn't sound like 'save the horses' 'heroin'. To me it sounds like "our foots in the hole" “save the whores” "save them" "Our Faith, see through/to them". Now I've listened to a lot of APC and listened to this track forward and backward a fair bit. Forward, for me, it’s about being stuck in a loop, cycling and sitting in a peaceful moment and having the realisation that it's going nowhere and being really over it and not being able to break free of it "Been over this before" Meaning this isn't the first time the realisation has hit but from the tone of his voice he just can't escape it and he's getting tired of it, accentuated in the sigh as he once again begins the cycle. This song means a lot to me at the moment, I keep getting into the same situation with different people and yeah I am 'So over this', but maybe it’s just me. I don't know. Cycles suck, especially when you are part of one, break free then start again with new people and it spirals into yet another cycle similar or exactly the same to the last. Anyway, enough 'boo hoo'. In reverse this song, from what I can only guess is the lyrics (see above) is a more objective point of view, contrasting the forwards version which is very subjective. It’s an objective prayer to some extent of optimism basically saying; 'PLEASE PLEASE save us, this is so hard to handle, we're sick of it, let me and all the other 'whores' of this cycle be free and guide us' That’s just my opinion and small cry for help, Ha Ha Ha. Wow. Placebo are alt rock. not emo. this song isn't about suicide or disease. its a love song, with the constant placebo themes of water and drug references. that i can assure. but this is now how i interpret the song. Ok the way i see it molkos found this love which he knew was there but never accepted and embraced it and this caused the lover to cry and such while he stood there and watched pretty much. he watched them drink their problems away. he wants to be this loves substitute for the alcohol and he has finally accepted it and wants to embrace it completely. he saw how much the person relied on the booze and the drugs they were like the persons mother, father and lover. but now he wants to be with this person, they no longer have to wash away all their feelings and thoughts because now hes there. ok. thats my opinon. i interpret it this way because it fits in with a situation i was in. it all waorked out happily, or its on the road to repair. so. yeah :) btw. He wants to bring this person down to earth so he can give them something more then their material possessions, he wants to rid them of their materialistic nature, even if he has to do it with this person thinking he is just their ‘funny valentine’ "If I could tear you from the ceiling I know the best have tried I'd fill your every breath with meaning And find the place we both could hide" He knows it will be difficult to bring this person down to earth but if he could he’d teach them to feel/think and be truthful to themselves and others and not censored as they are because of their materialistic way of life. But he doesn’t want to keep following this person because they’ll manipulate him and make him ‘blind’ because his views on everything will be glossed over by this persons selfish lifestyle.
