Well, the meaning of this song is somewhat obvious. (I also had help from reading an interview of Emilio Castillo in one of Tower Of Power's CD inserts.) It's a guy trying to convince an older woman that he's not too young for her. Simple as that. What it means to me, however, is much deeper than the song's lyrics and music itself. It's the fact that this was the song that brought me to Tower Of Power fanaticism unlike any other. On July 31, 2004, I saw them open for Al Green at L.A.'s Greek Theatre. Larry Braggs on the vocals, singing You're Still A Young Man was unforgettable. The rest is, as they say, history. Those who know me know that I'm obsessed with this song and this band. |
