| Mumford & Sons – Winter Winds Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Does this remind anyone else of the Beatles? Cant quite put my finger on it, but that first verse just seems so familiar. | |
| Violent Femmes – Confessions Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Cheers Fabricsoftener, I was listening it was buggin the heck out of me...what is that bass line?? Good pickup |
| Kings of Leon – Dusty Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Yeah, agreed! One of my absolute favourite KOL songs. I just cant decide which sound I like more, the old or the new. |

| Soundgarden – Black Hole Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Im certainly not reading through all of the comments, so what I say will no-doubt have been said once, twice or twenty times before...BUT The song is very much about the 'end of the world'. It is somewhat commonly agreed that eventually the sun will blow up and destroy the planet along with it. This 'explosion' is what Cornell refers to when he cals for the coming of the 'black hole sun', for as has been stated, some suns become black holes following the end of their natural lives. Washing away the rain is a biblical allusion. Rain, in the bible, is sin...the corruption, violence and moral erosion that man has brough into the world. The bible also predicts that when Jesus returns to earth he shall cleanse the earth of all impurities and only those who are clean and pure will return with him to heaven. Bible says this "end of the world...world is cleaned" Cornell says this "bring on the end of the world...clean the world" The rest of the song is in my opinion Cornell's expression of discontent. |

| Gil Scott-Heron – Home is Where the Hatred is Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Thelastpunkkid, I think its a bit deeper than simply hating 'the city he came from' Personally I think home is very specific to Gil's own parental home. I think it was a place of great misery to him, which perhaps led him to turn to drugs, which made the situation worse as he was then outcast by his parents and given no support. " stand as far away from me as you can and ask me why hang on to your rosary beads close your eyes to watch me die you keep saying, kick it, quit it, kick it, quit it" You dig? His parents, perhaps conservative and religious, couldnt accept him, they looked on in fear from a distance and simply turned their backs on him until such time as he kicked the addiction. |

| 50 Cent – In Da Club Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Sensational sound, for mine. Loving the idiotic posts above...stupidity can sometimes be amusing |
| Etta James – I'd Rather Go Blind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
One of my undoubted all time favourites. Intense song about the power of love really. Etta James is a god-send. It is almost depressing that this song has so little comments on this site, reflective of its lack of recognition in the wider world. |

| Bernard Fanning – Thrill Is Gone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Assuming Frog man's definition is correct, and it could well be, all i have to say is this... What a terrible thing it is to say "Just a cleaner, sweeter, brighter thrill has come along " I mean...imagine breaking up with a girl and saying, "Oh i still like you, but i found someone who is...just better than you" |
| 50 Cent – 21 Questions (Remix) (Feat. Nate Dogg) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
BTW "Would you believe me? Or up and leave me?" I counted that as two question, but it could very easily have been a mistake on the part of whoever added these lyrics, and that could well have been "Would you believe me, or up and leave me?", which, just so you know, would make it exactly 21 questions |
| 50 Cent – 21 Questions (Remix) (Feat. Nate Dogg) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yep, im sorry...its actually 22 question all up, Nate Dogg and 50 combined ...so ummm, shut your fucking face |
| 50 Cent – 21 Questions (Remix) (Feat. Nate Dogg) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well HarlequinGirl... I actually counted 20 questions, not including Nate Dogg's couple ( i probably should have included him seeings how they're in the song)...so it looks as though its not just 50 who cant count, either me or you struggle as well. I'll be checking again in a second though. |
| Guns N' Roses – Knockin' on Heaven's Door Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Dylan can usually sing no better than myself, an Im a dodgy singer, but for some reason he really performed on this song (also on "Ballad of a Thin Man", check it out) and his voice is somewhat beautiful on this track | |
| Cold Chisel – Khe Sanh Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| OK Regos you make a very fair point about all the issues surrounding australian society, i'll accept all that...but i tell you know, i would be embarrassed if this was the Australian Anthem, its up there with Waltzing Matilda as far as songs that would-be-inappropriate-for-the-national-anthem-but-people-always-call-for-them-anyway go | |
| Michael Bublé – Feeling Good Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Nina Simone didn't sing a "version" of this song. It's her song." ummm...original version??? Its still a version to me. |
| 50 Cent – 21 Questions Lyrics | 18 years ago |
BTW Rap arguments aside for just a minute... People have said that Nate Dogg sounds like shit when he sings on this track Am i the only one who actually likes the sweet, low tones that he produces?? "Giiiiiiiirrrrl" |
| 50 Cent – 21 Questions Lyrics | 18 years ago |
So you dont like rap...big deal, there are musical styles that i dont like, such as a sub-genre of rap, crunk...but i can appreciate its value, and i dont diss people for listening to it... You say that you come on here to bag rappers and those who listen to rap, but i repeat, taht is no better than those rappers who call you an emo cos of your tastes. All your doing is justifying the crap they put on you by doing the exact same thing back... Again...get over it |
| 50 Cent – 21 Questions Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Oh and by the way, Syde...it must be said that you are an idiot. 'Drey' (or Dr. Dre, to the educated among us) did indeed have something special about him, he pioneered an entire style of rap, G-Funk, and he more or less paved the way for artist after artist. Why do I bring this up though? Because 50 Cent, the man who is apparently killing rap, is a protege of Dre, much like Eminem and Snoop before him. Dre oversaw the creation of this album and is credited as its producer. Dre helped 50 become the rapper he now is, and he introduced him to mainstream music channels...hell he even said in an interview that this album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" was "the best album of the past seven years" when it first came out... ...anyway |
| 50 Cent – 21 Questions Lyrics | 18 years ago |
So obviously you know 50 Cent personally then, Mikedee44? Seriously people, get over it, everyone... I love rock music, I like rap music...I love music in general in fact. Take it from me, I know from experience, it is actually possible to like more than one specific type of music at a time, and people should not be bagged out for their particular tastes. All the rockers coming over here flaming those who listen to rap are no worse than the idiots who mock kids who were Hendrix or Marvin Gaye shirts to school. Appreciating different types of music is all well and good, but being ignorant of the qualities of different types of music is inexcusable if you were to call yourself a music fan. And shock horror!! Rappers dont play instruments!! Well first of all thats entirely false, there are many rappers who can play instruments, but even that is irrelevant, rappers are really no different to lead singers who do not play instruments, but just sing. Rappers write lyrics, and thats no different to Page writing his latest guitar solo (or ripping it off as the case may be). And to say that there is no meaning behind any of their songs is ridiculous, some of the most famous rappers of all time had content rich lyrics (think 2Pac, or NaS). Even this song has meaning, the lyricist is wondering whether the love his girlfriend seemingly has for him is real, and if she will always be there for him, or if she is a superficial gold digger of sorts... But you know what, more than anything else...all other crap aside...I THINK THIS SONG SOUNDS GOOD, AND FOR THAT I LIKE IT. that is all |
| Primal Scream – Movin' On Up Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeh as was mentioned there are very obvious allusions to the religious hymn "Amazing Grace", but it should also be noted that the recurring line "My light shines on" is an appropriation of the hymn "Let Your Light Shine On", also obviously quite spiritual. These allusions, combined with the almost church-choir like sounds of the backing vocals gives the song a highly spiritual feel |
| Wolfmother – Woman Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Wolfmother do sound a lot like Zeppelin and Sabbath dont they...i dunno, maybe thats cos they're A FUCKING ROCK BAND what the hell is wrong with sounding like another band that plays the same genre of music as you? all bands have their influences, jeez. |
| Wolfmother – Apple Tree Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It does sound like Jack White eh, so very much so | |
| Guns N' Roses – Knockin' on Heaven's Door Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| By the way...Dylan's version is entirely different obviously, but i think it takes the prize in regards to which is better...Dylan's version is masterful, as opposed to the gunners' effort, which is kick ass only | |
| Guns N' Roses – Knockin' on Heaven's Door Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Just to chime in... I am pretty sure those who suggest Dylan wrote this for a western movie are entirely correct, and i would dare to add that the character that this song was written for was a sherrif or something very similar...for the uneducated, sherriffs in westerns wore badges... |
| Kasabian – Shoot the Runner Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Kasabian opened with this at the Sydney Big Day Out on their way to truly owning the entire festival, awesome stuff. | |
| Violent Femmes – Kiss Off Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I buy into the suicide theory, providing a reason for every pill he takes on his way to an intentional overdose... The reference to his habit isnt necessarily about drugs, habits are not always drug habbits after all. It could be about how he always gets nervous, as he said in the previous line. Anyway, for me it's suicide... Also, awesome song, and so amazing live, with the whole crowd counting with him, and a growing aggression the further into the count we go...sensational |
| Rage Against the Machine – Know Your Enemy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
antiy4ho0... i also wish there was more traffic on ratm pages, usually i dont post on here because there is little presence, in this case i felt i needed to say that, too bad RATM13LJH will more than likely never read it eh? "Compromise, Conformity, Assimilation..." i think that is my favourite part too (apart from maynard's piece) because it really sums up so much of their message in a few lines, and Zachy D's delivery "All of which are American Dreams", well...its plain awesome |
| Rage Against the Machine – Know Your Enemy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
RATM13LJH...The 'machine' is not solely the government, the 'machine' is the is the vehicle, made up of many processes and institutions, through which the 'man', or any percieved authority, is able to oppress his subordinates, and exert influence over, whether good or bad. The government is one of the major institutions utilised by that 'man' and it could be said that the government is a major cog in the machine, however the government by itself is not the machine, the machine would also represent, for example, mainstream media and the capitalistic channels through which the dissemination of information goes, and through which the 'in-house drive by' is executed... my two cents... |
| Gnarls Barkley – Who Cares? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Its deep how you can be so shallow" i really dig that line, its clever, and cool to boot |
| Gnarls Barkley – Necromancer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
galactor... i would suggest that he uses date rape and necrophillia as a metaphor and as a vehicle to express what ExLover was talking about |
| Michael Jackson – Billie Jean Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| For me, Michael Jackson's only decent song...i just dont get his music | |
| Alicia Keys – If I Ain't Got You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
A modern artist with a depth in her voice that indicates a burning passion and belief in what she is singing/doing...who would have thought? Alicia Keys is simply brilliant, her voice is without doubt one of the best in the business, the power and passion in her delivery throws us back to the soulful ladies of years gone by...this girl is the real deal, power to ya! |
| Alicia Keys – Fallin' Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Alicia Keys is absolutely incredible, nothing but respect | |
| Alicia Keys – A Woman's Worth Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is a classy song, I love the quality of Alicia Keys' voice, as a gyu this song inspires me to do exactly what it asks of men, treat women right...it appeals to that inner romantic in me... | |
| Wolfmother – Dimension Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| After about 9 months of waiting I finally, FINALLY, got to see these boys live...and this song went so far off its crazy | |
| Whitney Houston – I Will Always Love You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| surprisingly few comments considering this is one of the most commonly misinterpreted songs of all time, people play this song at weddings and use it to show their love for someone else etc etc when in reality this song describes a separation, albeit one where love remains | |
| Whitney Houston – I Have Nothing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| What an incredible song! Her delivery is so incredibley powerful, this song earned Whitney Houston my undying respect. | |
| The Subways – Mary Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| the sound of this song reminds me a lot of Oasis...that's just me though, isnt it? | |
| The Subways – Rock & Roll Queen Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Great song, very simple and very catchy indeed BUT the lyrics are somewhat horrid...they are by far the weakest aspect of the song | |
| Gil Scott-Heron – Home is Where the Hatred is Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Home is where the hatred is" That is one incredible line, so much meaning there, and such a clever play on words...Respect, man, respect |
| Youth Group – Forever Young Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Captain Planet, i think your previous post served only to make you look like an idiot... An increase in a song's exposure does not result in a decrease in the song's quality... I liked this song before I heard it on 'The O.C.' and since it made its O.C. appearance many others have begun to listen to, and like, it...but hey, I still like it, regardless of what other people think of it... From your post i conclude that you believe popular music to be bad music, correct? |
| Michael Bublé – Feeling Good Lyrics | 19 years ago |
anyone know any versions besides this one, the muse noe and Nina Simone's?? I heard this song in an ad (not coffee) you see and i have been searching for it... |
| Avenged Sevenfold – Eternal Rest Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"beginning 45 seconds are the best 45 seconds of any song that you will ever hear...? i think the first 45 seconds is incredibley weak compared to the killer riff and the "burn inside me" verse |
| Muse – Feeling Good (Nina Simone cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this song has so many different versions, there is an ad for westfields in australia that uses this song but performed by someone else and it kicks sooo much arse...but this version too rocks, the musicianship really stands out... | |
| The Verve – Lucky Man Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i'll admit im not too sure what its actually about, is it him coming to terms with himself, accepting who he is and loving what he is, not in an egotistical way. Is he lucky because he accepts who he is or is he lucky because, as Kuroshin says, he thinks he loves others but in actual fact he gives a fake love of sorts, the kind that both parties feel is real but is not, therefore he can never be hurt by heartbreak. Well i dont really know but what i will say is that this song is simply awe inspiring... |
| Youth Group – Forever Young Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i think the film clip is masterful, and as you say, simply about youth and being young...makes me long for a time passed when it actually was ok to be young and to have innocent fun | |
| Wolfmother – Apple Tree Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It is NOT Nyssa, granted there is a biblical reference to the story of Adam and Eve but it is simply in terms of the apple representing that which is forbidden, in the case of Adam and Eve it was the fruit (though some might argue it was a little more 'kinky' then that) and in the case of Andrew and his Wolfie pals it is representative of some dudes daughter who he had 'relations' with... | |

| awsome opener, thats all i'll say | |
| Wolfmother – Woman Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Yeh it sounds so old school...but why the hell do people complain about that?!?!?! lol This is the SHIT, gotta love the Wolfies btw, the guy who said it was a blatant Zeppelin rip off, i dont think Jimmy Page would be in any position to complain, he flogged a few (or more) of his riffs after all |
| Cold Chisel – Khe Sanh Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is a true aussie song and all that and i plan on whacking it on the ol jukebox when im of legal age and down the pub... BUT to say that it is our unofficial national anthem and what not is simply rediculous. Barely any australian soldiered served in Vietnam and the relevance to most Aussies is simply non-existant...note the lines "I've had the Vietnam cold turkey From the ocean to the Silver City And it's only other vets could understand" particulalary that last line...ONLY OTHER VETS COULD UNDERSTAND |
