| Emmylou Harris – Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this is one of my favorite songs ever just because its so haunting and resonates within my soul. if i were to guess what it is even about(it was originally a black folk song), i would imagine that maybe it's a lullaby that a grandma would sing to a little baby who's mom just died. it's maybe in the mom's point of view saying "i'm gone, but you still have your father and one day you can lay your bones on the alabaster stone and be my everlovin baby" or perhaps a mother singing to her child that was about to be taken away from her during the slave days. either way it a beautiful song and i could think of any other 3 women that could pull this off like those 3 did. | |

oh.my.god. if one more person says something about vampires, im going to scream. go back to your anime manga vampire porn and get a life. im pretty sure davey isn't a vampire because you know...they're not real and all. anyways, back to thinking outside the box...just reading the lyrics to this song makes me think its about live shows. but i'd like to think davey is deeper than that. when i listen to the song and hear "i offer grace, i offer blood, i offer everything until my heart is crystal clear", it makes me think of a spiritual high. doing whatever it takes to be touched by that purest of all energies and to be renewed again. or maybe im weird and the song is about vampires and weiners or something. god i hate this site.... |

If i could make a guess, i'm pretty sure it's coke because of this line: "There's a mirror that's never seen a face" But there are a lot of alcohol references in here too. Needless to say, its a great song that hits home a bit. |

i love self-important people that try to look really smart & obscure by using big words that people have to look up in the dictionary. whatever helps you sleep at night, dude. anyways, i think this is my favorite bright eyes song. the words kind of just jump off the paper & punch you in the face. i've never listened to another artist that can express his political opinions without being tacky & redundant(speaking of green day....) |

You guys are thinking too hard on this. It's just about a guy who meets up with an old friend & they drink the night away, forgetting about everything that happened in the past. & to be honest, I think the whole "well whiskey" deal is actually not supposed to be symbolic of anything. That's just how conor writes. This is probably one of my favorite bright eyes songs. |

Alright, after much discussion, I believe I figured out what this song really is about. The whole song is about a car-ride. She's driving somewhere & all these things are running through her head-johnny cash, moving to memphis, this mystery man "jack of diamonds" etc... "a winding ribbon with a band of gold" is the road. "silver vision come bless my soul" silver vision is sleep. This is probably one of the most amazing songs I have ever heard in my entire life & I hope what I just posted will make some sense out of it. |
