thrice not a religious band? well of course it's not a Christian band with traditional worship songs and of course he would never explicitly say in an interview "My songs are about my faith." but come on guys, look up the books written by C.S. Lewis-- just their titles you don't even have to read them. if you're a christian or you were raised as one, you're obviously going to make connections with the language dustin uses and what we've heard our whole lives being that we were surrounded by christians.

for me personally, i dont want to call Thrice a religious band either-- perhaps a post-hardcore band with heavy, heavy religious connotations in their lyrics. i find that this is what keeps me coming back to Thrice. The fact that Dustin himself is a believer and there is a sort of ambivalence on his part-- or at least there's a sort of master plan to his music that isn't so clear to someone that might first listen to a song by Thrice.

If you want to say the song is about love between persons, or you think it's about drowning. FINE. that's completely fine there's nothing wrong about that. this site is for people to express their own interpretations of any sort of song-- but just as i can't ridicule someone for interpreting this song as being about drowning, people shouldn't go apeshit over me interpreting it as being about heaven. that's just how i read it, alright?

maybe dustin is speaking directly to Christians and nonbelievers alike. When he says,
"so lets find the place where sight begins
and see the things that we saw when our
eyes were bright and wet against the light"

Maybe hes talking to Christians that have fallen away and is pleading with them to return to God who is the source of the light. Beautiful song though.
