Whale – Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe Lyrics 15 years ago
A slutty hobo, but not a prostitute. This type of person lives in a tent city and gets passed around among the male hobos. She is characterized by her willingness to perform any sexual act, including (but not limited to) fellatio and the cleveland steamer.

Apparently.

Dido – Here With Me Lyrics 16 years ago
Its a great song but it annoys me that she sings "Dido want to move a thing" instead of "And I don't want to move a thing"

Duran Duran – Ordinary World Lyrics 16 years ago
With regard to Layer Cake, the choice of this song and its subsequent use in the cafe scene is genius.

"I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world somehow I have to find.
And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive."

It fits the juxtaposition of Morty and XXXX (Craig) perfectly. Morty, confronted with the man who denied him 10 years of his life, carried the sentiment of these lines for a decade until his release from prison. Whereupon he rejoined the underworld. This violent, illegal and brutal existence is his ordinary world.

XXXX, on the other hand, finds himself now trapped in the underworld and his sole desire throughout the film is to escape it. To return to what we identify as the the 'ordinary world'.

Both men have seen the same journey but from opposite ends of the path. Morty has completed his, but XXXX has just begun. This is why their fates are so intertwined.

The mortality of their plight is brought home via the jump cuts of the execution of the protagonists to their dilemna.

God I'm drunk...

Duran Duran – All She Wants Is Lyrics 16 years ago
the line "pleasure in suspension" is the key:

In The Symposium, for example, Socrates claims, in his speech to Agathon, that "one desires what one lacks". Hegel, along with Freud and Lacan, continue this long tradition insofar as each sees desire as the yearning for what is lost, absent, or impossible. Desire is posited in an economy of scarcity, where reality itself is missing something (the object whose attainment would yield completion).

We cannot know what we desire; we can only desire it when we encounter it. But before an encounter, we have to concede to a state of visitation by the encounter, of receptivity to the message, the event of truth. The pleasure in suspension is in the abandon to the possibility of an encounter with a whatever singularity, a self-encounter.

Ergo, it's the search for love through sex.

No-one's commented on this? Incredible...

It's a pretty straight forward "boy-girl, boy-leaves-girl, boy-regrets, boy-returns"

but it's better than that!

i like that behind the main vocal, you can hear her read the lyrics as they would be a letter (like those referenced)...
