Arcade Fire – Culture War Lyrics 14 years ago
good song

one thing i think it's "the dominos they never fell", maybe referencing the rationale for America's Vietnam intervention ("if one SEA country falls to the communists all others will fall like dominoes"); bodies burning could be both the Buddhist monk who self-immolated in 1963 and all the napalm victims

culture war is imo about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_war#American_1980s_culture_wars

Deerhunter – Helicopter Lyrics 15 years ago
this is what Mojo had to say about the album:

"Mojo - 4 out of 5

Fourth album from Atlanta pop-psych quartet.

The measure of Deerhunter's fuzzed-out beauty is how it trancends the the band's damaged subtext, centering upon volatile frontman (and Marfan syndrome suffer) Bradford Cox. Though lacking the immediate sonic kick of 2008's Microcastle, this prolific collective's latest album has greater intrigue, from opener Earthquake's phased beats and reverberant guitar pools onwards. The fizzing jaunt of Revival suggests Grateful Dead warped by Eno, a key touchstone throughout but especially the pellucid scales of Desire Lines, the album's glorious centrepiece, written by guitarist Lockett Pundt. Cox is a fan of the transgressive author Dennis Cooper, whose account of the shocking death of a teenage gay prostitute in Russia inspired Helicopter and its heartbreaking refrain "Now they are through with me". There's no shortage of US outfits seeking new conduits for the blown mind, but with Halcyon Digest Deerhunter are dealing in an altogether different kind of tension.
Keith Cameron."

Rain Machine – Winter Song Lyrics 16 years ago
it's "antediluvian shrine" i think, as in before the Flood; im also not sure about several other places (perhaps it's "the favourable scene of love" in the second line, and "water's EVER rising tide")

amazing song by the way, themes of mortality, love, and hope in the face of an impending apocalypse are woven into such a perfect closer to what is in my opinion a truly superb album (my favourite this year). too bad more people don't give it a chance. they're also amazing live so grab some of their recordings from mininova and dimeadozen

The Raconteurs – Intimate Secretary Lyrics 19 years ago
I've been puzzled by this song since the day I heard it (it is an AMAZING tune btw, listen to Zane Lowe version if you can), you can see my April 5th try here

http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:idPhS_8eh0IJ:dhost.info/andeh88/phpBB2/viewtopic.php%3Ft%3D391%26start%3D0%26postdays%3D0%26postorder%3Dasc%26highlight%3D%26sid%3D70b2de804d2df0be3195a7fec387e4ef+secretary+raconteurs+alexis&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3

I'm convinced it has a deeper meaning, I'm simply unable to hear all the words :) I've been amused by all the comments in all the reviews about the supposed "playfulness" and "goofiness" of these lyrics, is anyone aware of any comment by the band on this topic?
