Feist – Sealion Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm not sure this should be described as a cover of George Bass and Nina Simone. Feist's lyrics are more similar to the original folk versions.

Notably absent from Simone's version is the bit about the rooster, which a thread at mudcat.org ( http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=33719 ) points out is a Biblical reference: Peter would deny Jesus 3 times before the rooster crows twice. And "sea lion" probably meant "she lyin".

Similarly, it might not be a coincidence that the "sea lion woman" that starts each verse sounds a lot like "see that woman".

Jimmy Eat World – Higher Devotion Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't know whether this was the intention, but I know a lot of men fear that their female partners think like the narrator of this song.

Chris Lake – Carry Me Away ft. Emma Hewitt Lyrics 17 years ago
It makes me think of Ophelia in Hamlet. Or being on drugs, but that fits a lot of songs.

September – Satellites Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the "I" is comforting the "you", but the "you" resents (real or implied?) dependency on "I". In other words, "Don't feel bad that you couldn't make it without me, because I'll take you back."
