There's a WB Yeats poem (A Dream of Death) that mentions "the indifferent stars above," which is why I always assumed the lyric here was "indifferent". The idea, I guess, being that our actions have no bearing on the greater scheme of the universe. Or something. |

Dude, I just made the connection that homing pigeons navigate using the earth's magnetic field and iron-bearing minerals in their heads--thus, "magnetized."
Between that and "olivine eyes" she sure knows how to melt a geology nerd's heart. Best song on the album. |

This is definitely an amazing song when read in the traditional "relationship/breakup" context. However, Michael Stipe recorded it for the Gulf Coast relief effort, and when you listen to it in that context, it's heartbreaking. |
