The Cure – The Reasons Why Lyrics | 15 years ago |
We all know Robert likes to lie though... This is one of my favourites from the new album :) |
The Smiths – Meat Is Murder Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm sorry, but how is being a vegetarian costlier than eating meat. The purchase of a piece of meat includes the cost of rearing the animal, in terms of feed, vet bill's, the land needed, the staff needed to run the land, the cost of transport, the cost of slaughter, packaging etc. etc. If you go to the bottom of your garden and pick an apple, or something equally vegetarian and yet cheap, the costs are small in comparison with the funding of the barbarous, murderous meat industry. The Cure – Return Lyrics | 16 years ago |
THIS SONG MAKES ME HAPPY! I LOVE ROBERT XXXX |
The Cure – I Want to Be Old Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it's an 'up yours' to the punk movement and more generally to music of the 60's and 70's. like the who 'i hope i die before i get old..' etc.. |
The Cure – Disintegration Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think you guys are mis-interpreting 'duplicities' by focusing on the word 'addiction' which is in front of it in those lines. duplicities are the lies and deception he feels he is subjecting his partner to - he's saying how easy it is to lie to her - much the same as in Deep Green Sea 'i'll lie to keep her happy.' fans of the top and pornography albums will know how much robert likes self-loathing. and we all know according to robert - this song could have been a single. Modest Mouse – Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Reminds me of myself really, like always finding bad in something (like a pretty sunset) that is beautiful and perfect. Mehhhh. |
The Faint – The Conductor Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Wow this song is haunting. It's a good metaphor, like the dictator has a control of his people like a conductor has over the orchestra. I like the intro bit, funky (: |
The Faint – Let the Poison Spill from Your Throat Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This reminds me a LOT of New Order. Great synths and stuff. |
The Cure – Fascination Street Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think Fascination Street is a metaphor for a vagina, would make sense. Hmmm maybe just me. |
The Cure – Wrong Number Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Americanisation? What, like replacing s's with z's. Ahhh the butchery of our language continues... |
The Cure – The Figurehead Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the figurehead was a grotesque skull sculpture i discovered in the disused asylum we used in the "charlotte sometimes" video. i took it home to talk to - to confess to? and this song is about guilt. R. Smith, from cure news Number 9, 1990 |
The Cure – The Figurehead Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The amount of comments really doesn't correlate to how good this song really is. Absolutely unforgettable, never heard anything so depressing. It's perfection (: |
The New Pornographers – The Bones of an Idol Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's poking fun at the term "bone idle", in which case the "finding inspiration" of LockeCole is like finding the inspiration to get off your ass. |
The Cure – How Beautiful You Are... Lyrics | 18 years ago |
MaskOfSanity you are 100% spot on! When we meet the so-called "perfect" person, we do conjure up "perfection" fantasies because we are all to naive to know any different. In this song the illusion is shattered when he sees how his loved one views the people, she sees them as beggars (Make them go away from me) which makes our protaganist jump out of the "soul mate" idea because he sees her for what she really is, and his illusions of soulmates or whatever are completely shattered (and this is why I hate you) Fucking amazing Cure song, one of the best on the Kiss Me... album. |
Maxïmo Park – Once, A Glimpse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love the drum bit at the beginning, woo this song rocks. This band is 100000 times better than Arctic Monkeys. |
Maxïmo Park – Once, A Glimpse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love the drum bit at the beginning, woo this song rocks. This band is 100000 times better than Arctic Monkeys. |
Maxïmo Park – Acrobat Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The keyboards are quite eery, like Cure circa. Disintegration. The contrast between the verses and the chorus really makes the song stand out. So different to all the other stuff they've done, I love it. And _ellie, it's definitely not the weakest on the album, but not the strongest either. Hmm, it's very good though :) |
Maxïmo Park – Signal And Sign Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The "lonely hands" line is great :D |
The Cure – Siamese Twins Lyrics | 18 years ago |
To me the reference to the imagery of prostitution (the red light, girl at the window) just emphasises how vulgar he thinks sex is. He's describing his experience as if he with a prostitute because he feels sickened and wonders if it "is always like this?" |
Morrissey – America Is Not The World Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't think you can insult Morrissey because he apparantly "hates" America (in this song) when he says quite clearly "And I love you, I just wish you'd stay where you is" He's not insulting the country, the people as a whole, just the way America seems to interfere with the rest of the world, i.e. Iraq, Iran. Although the line "America, it bought you the hamburger" is classic Moz. And he lives in Rome now :P |
Morrissey – Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Bono sings the way he does because he got his teeth punched out as a teenager - maybe related to this song? And Bono is an elder statesman of rock :P |
Modest Mouse – It Always Rains on a Picnic Lyrics | 18 years ago |
To me it's just saying that even the good things in life (here the picnic) always have bad patches i.e. the rain. No matter what we do in life there are always going to be bad spells, and the "Don't let go quite yet" is the plea for not giving up on life because at least there are the good times, whether they are marred (by rain...) or not. The repetition of "downpour" to me represents the shit days in life, and how some people dwell on them (the way he sings downpourrrr is kinda sarcastic, almost of if he's mocking those people who are constantly thinking of half empty glasses instead of half full. wortel - I think the picnic is just a metaphor but it could always be a physical thing that the protaganist has gone to great pains to organise. This is almost certainly my favourite Modest Mouse song, simply yet haunting. It's a really positive image as well, wrapped up in all the sadness (downpour) that at least we get the chance to have picnics (the good times) so we should all float on (to use a MM song) with life. |
The Cure – Prayers for Rain Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The live version of this on Entreat is simply mindblowing. |
The Cure – Cold Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"Your name like ice into my heart" Doesn't get more emotional than that. |
The Cure – One Hundred Years Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Best opening line from any album. As has been said before it really does set the mood for the Pornography album. |
The Cure – Disintegration Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"It's easier for me to get closer to heaven Than ever feel whole again" Is my favourite lyric from any song, ever. So full of emotion, great stuff. Good contender for best Cure song. |
The Cure – Pornography Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Another open song, the "one more day..." lyric can be interpreted in two ways, either as he's so depressed he even wants to kill his loved one or as the suicide note version, talking about himself in the third person. The live version of this on the second disc of the deluxe edition blows the album version away. Robert sings it so violently it's brilliant :D |
The Cure – Torture Lyrics | 18 years ago |
OH MY GOD why is there only one comment on this song? It's amazing, I've had a similar experience too. IT'S TORRRRTUUURE. |
The Cure – Hot Hot Hot!!! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's one of those Cure songs that are really open to interpretation, although here's something Robert said; "This was about three strange sexual experiences: in the basement of a club, on a ferry and at home in my bedroom. Lightning striking was an analogy. I was thinking of a children's book - Earthfast (by William Mayne) about a boy hit by lightning and going back in time - and of that bloke in the Guinness Book Of Records who's been hit numerous times. I told Tim Pope I wanted us to look like a lowdown funky soul band. He translated "lowdown" as "dwarf" and "soul band" as "black-and-white". Polydor said it wouldn't get shown. It didn't." |
Maxïmo Park – The Night I Lost My Head Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Great song :) Paul Smith pointed to me as he was singing the "one in a million" line... highlight of my evening teehee THIS BAND ARE AMAZING |
