i love the sentiment of this song; basically nobody is going to stop me from living my life, and if i die i die but at least i lived. it's almost laughable to compare this song to current artists like Radiohead who sing "i will lay me down in a bunker underground." i think i'll stick with Dylan's attitude on the subject. |

hmm. i don't know about it being merely "love is better than meaningless sex." i think the second verse holds that sentiment, but the rest doesn't seem to fit that at all. the first verse seems to be talking about writing a song, or creating any kind of art; it's beautiful, sure, but love is better. then the second verse is the same as you say; sex is beautiful, sure, but love is better. the third verse seems to be talking about other people's art, discovering beautiful art, but knowing that love is better. on the whole, i think the song is just saying that love is better than ALL these things (and everything else). |
