this song i think is about 3 kids growing up and their father left their mother, their mother is now an emotional wreck and cant handle her kids, the mothers advice i think is like how love treated her bad, her heart was broken so she says "love is just a hoax so forget everything that you ever heard" she is clearly hurt from loss of love whether they abandoned her intentionally or died, either way she is very bitter against love. and the 3 kids are clearly all distressed(i relate to dade and vada) veronica i believe is just, living for the moment kissing boys being beautiful, vada is very jealous of her sister, it seems that she has nothing goin for her and she has nothing to offer, like she can never compare to veronica and the mother is emotionally distant and clearly doesnt have the capacity to help because shes mourning the loss of their father, dade also mourns the death of his father, he wants his dad back, he wants the love back, who doesnt want the love back clearly its all gone... anyways but dade is wondering where the purpose in life is, why hes there, why all this stuff has to go on he seems to me emotionally distraught and on the verge of suicidal. at the end of the song it corrects the mothers advice saying "love is completely real" i love this song, i know every word by heart and i just adore it |

this is a beautiful song, just beautiful i think this song is about him loving someone who he shouldnt love, "like i shrugged it off befor my mom walked in my bedroom" so hes shrugging off his love, to hide from the world like mom could represent anyone, and his bedroom his soul or heart, but he loves this person deeply, for whatever reason "i carve your name across my eyelids you pray for rain i pray for blindness" (my fav part of the song) is just goreous, i think that is showing how thats all he wants is this person, but he cant so hes praying that he will never have to see them, never have to love them, since clearly hes not supposed to for whatever reason, maybe cheating on someone, or homosexuality, or they had a fight and hes supposed to be over her but hes not, or hes not supposed to because of a friend or other companion, it is a very moving song and it gets me every time |
