Ronnie Day – hereos die Lyrics 18 years ago
first of all, this song is AMAZING and everyone should listen to it!

I'm pretty sure this song is about watching someone you love with a drug addiction. "Sometimes we watch our heroes die." You watch them kill themselves. I have a friend with drug problems and this song really hits home for me.

"I've learned that there are things about you, which I knew, which I chose to hold in. " He knew she had drug problems but chose to ignore it.

"I've seen your eyes when they're glassed over- your charcoaled lungs, malignant fire." He's seen her high.

"Desire keeps us holding on tight. I am now everything good that you did." However, despite her addictions, he still loves her and wants her, and he's learned from her without having to make her mistakes.

(By the way, my friend has been clean for about two months now, and he really wants to stay that way. I'm so proud of him :] )

Belle & Sebastian – Dress Up in You Lyrics 19 years ago
i think this song is about someone who met someone, and liked them even before they got famous...

now the person who became famous is fake and ditches the "loser," so now even though everyone else loves the star [including the loser's boyfriend], the loser hates her.

i think this song is about how people are always telling you to be happy, but looking back, he's kind of saying "what is there to be happy about?"

i also think this could be about how nothing is really yours.. the song that makes your heart burst, makes someone else feel the same way. someone else will move into your house after you, and sleep in your bedroom.

anyways, does this song remind anyone else of morrissey?

k-os – Crabbuckit Lyrics 19 years ago
i'd never heard of this song or artist until today... but now that i heard it i love it and can't stop listening to it or get it out of my head.. (we're doing it as a tap dance!) so does anyone have any ideas what it's about as a whole? i have a few ideas here and there but can't really tie them together.

Audioslave – Broken City Lyrics 19 years ago
i think he's talking about how people only care about themselves, and everyone around them is "breaking", fallinf apart emotionally, but no one cares..

"If a building falls you wouldn't care to notice unless you were in it "

that's a great line

Franz Ferdinand – Eleanor, Put Your Boots On Lyrics 19 years ago
this song definitely reminds me of the beatles, maybe a mix between hey jude and eleanor rigby, but thats just me.

just to disagree with everyone whos saying its about her coming to see him in europe:

i think this song is about suicide, especially since the tone is kind of dark [it sounds like it's in minor, for all you musically inclined people]. i think he's saying that since they can't be together in life [maybe that's where the whole he's-in-europe thing comes in] ..they could be together in death. a double suicide type thing.

"i could be there when you land"

i think if he was saying something about being there for her, he would say "i could catch you when you fall," but he doesn't say anything about catching. instead, "i could be there when you land" makes me think he'll be waiting for her..after she dies. so yeah. tell me what you think..

Bright Eyes – We Are Nowhere and It's Now Lyrics 19 years ago
okay..i don't know where it came from, but the phrase "yellow bird" means a good luck charm of some sort.

"You’re the yellow bird that I’ve been waiting for. "
this new girl brings him good luck

"Did you forget that yellow bird?
How could you forget your yellow bird?"
how could you forget something to bring you good luck?

Jason Mraz – The Remedy (I Won't Worry) Lyrics 19 years ago
I saw fireworks from the freeway and behind closed eyes I cannot make them go away
Cause you were born on the fourth of july, freedom ring
now something on the surface it stings
that something on the surface it kind of makes me nervous who says that you deserve this
and what kind of god would serve this?

[his friend charlie has cancer, but he doesn't deserve it. what kind of god would give charlie cancer?]

We will cure this dirty old disease
if you've got the poison I've got the remedy

[he wants to be able to cure the cancer..i think this line has a double meaning. he wants to be able to cure life being too short, with too much worrying and stress to really enjoy it. he doesn't have the cure for cancer, but he has the cure for wasting the short time we have in our life.]

the remedy is the experience. It is a dangerous liaison

[the way to not waste your life is to take a risk.]

I say the comedy is that its serious. Which is a strange enough new play on words

[it's a new way to look at things]

I say the tragedy is how youre gonna spend the rest of your nights with the light on

[you're going to waste away your life worrying]

So shine the light on all of your friends because it all amounts to nothing in the end.

[give your friends some time to shine too, because in the end all the attention that's been focused on you doesn't really matter.]

I wont worry my life away.
I wont worry my life away.

[um..self explanatory.]

I heard two men talking on the radio in a cross fire kind of new reality show
Uncovering the ways to plan the next big attack
they were counting down the days to stab the brother in the be right back after this

[fighting..planning on stabbing one of their "friends" in the back..why fight when there's so little time here?..i don't really understand this part.]

the unavoidable kiss, where the minty fresh death breath is sure to outlast his catastrophy
dance with me, because if you've got the poison, I've got the remedy

[i don't get this part either, but i love when he says "dance with me" :D ]

When I fall in love I take my time
There's no need to hurry when I'm making up my mind

[he doesn't waste his time on fake "loves" because he needs to find his only real love]

You can turn off the sun but I'm still gonna shine and I'll tell you why

[he's still going to shine because he knows that if you don't worry, then you will be fine.]

[overall, this song is about how short life is..he realized how short it is when his friend got cancer. trust me, i know how it feels when someone you know has cancer. it's a slap in the face of how vulnerable we really are, and how we take everything for granted. it's a good song.

jadespider...wow that's a really good thought! i would have never thought of this song that way lol. but wow yeah it makes sense to be about war. after i read that i listened to it and it sounded like a whole new song :] that's why i love this website

james was an alcoholic? "she kept in her nightstand an A.A. card and a lock of red hair" a.a. = alcoholics anonymous. james died from alcohol poisoning or maybe a drunk driving accident? but i guess the AA card in her nightstand could also mean evelyn took up drinking after james died, but i think it was james who was an alcoholic because "just like james, i'll be drinking irish tonight"

Panic! at the Disco – Introduction Lyrics 19 years ago
it sounds like someone's fiddling with the radio, you can hear parts of some Panic! songs, some news, some different languages, one of the stations say "ladies and gentlemen, we proudly present, a pictueresque song, of passing fancy" then the radio shuts off. it's a good introuduction..the CD is played out like a radio show, it reminds me of the 50's a bit, the whole CD does, with the name being "Disco" and referencing the "Disco Fever" and also the old-fashioned looking women on the cover. Also many songs have refernces to shows, especially "introduction" and "intermission"

He Is Legend – I Am Hollywood Lyrics 19 years ago
these lyrics are missing part of the song:

Heather's gone
She left a note
"He is Legend" was all she wrote
Go fetch the detective
I think I've found something
This isn't Heater's handwriting (that's right, I said it)

i said it, no i said it
i said it, no i said it
[repeat]
i said it, yes i did
i said it, yes i did

at first it sounds like the singer/narrator and the "hollywood" voice are arguing. "i said it", "no i said it."

then it sounds like the narrator won, "i said it, yes i did."

Panic! at the Disco – Build God, Then We'll Talk Lyrics 19 years ago
sorry part got cut off:

Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things

[these two verses are a play on the song "favorite things" from the sound of music. they are saying that life isn't always great, there aren't always "Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses." the reality is that life is not that great or innocent.]

Panic! at the Disco – Build God, Then We'll Talk Lyrics 19 years ago
It's these substandard motels
On the corner of 4th and Freemont Street
Appealing, only because they're just that unappealing
Any practiced Catholic would cross themselves upon entering

[this means that the motels are bad, and attract bad people. good people would not set foot into it.]

The rooms have a hint of asbestos
And maybe just a dash of formaldehyde
And the habit of decomposing right before your very eyes
Along with the people inside

[the motel is collapsing literally, and the people that go there are collapsing..figuratively, of course.]

What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy

[caricature of intimacy = fake love]

Tonight tenants range from a lawyer and a virgin
Accessorizing with a rosary tucked inside her lingerie
She's getting a job at the firm come Monday

[she has sex with the lawyer so that she will get a better job at the firm.]

The Mrs. will stay with the cheating attorney
Moonlighting aside, she really needs his money

[this cheating lawyer's wife will stay with him because she needs his money.]

A wonderful caricature of intimacy

[she doesn't love him, she just pretends to so she can get his money.]

And not to mention, the constable
And his proposition, for that "virgin"
Yes, the one the lawyer met with on "strictly business"

[the "virgin" is apparently having sex with the constable, in addition to the lawyer.]

As he said to the Mrs.
Well, only hours before, after he had left
She was fixing her face in a compact
There was a terrible crash
Between her and the badge
She spilled her purse and her bag
And held a "purse" of a different kind
Along with the people inside

[the constable's wife got busted for drugs by a policeman a.k.a. a "badge."]

What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy

[i explained this earlier]

There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things

Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things

[these two verses are a play on the song "favorite things" from the sound of music. they are saying that life isn't always great, there aren't always "Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses." the reality is that

Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy

Raindrops on roses and the girls in white dresses
And the sleeping with the roaches and the taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things

[overall, this song is about how life is not as great as we'd like it to be. an amazing song, touching, great melody, haunting. panic! is an amazing band.]
