great song...i loved it in shrek, then a friend played rufus' version and i was just like, wow. i downloaded it and have been listening to it ever since...i love his voice. But for good measure i am in the process of getting buckley's version...i'm sure it's good, but i really don't think it will beat rufus' version for me. Favorite part: "remember when i moved in you, the holy dark was moving too, and every breath we drew was hallelujiah" --so, so beautiful, the only better way to express that experience is by actually having it...and i'm not talking about just gettin some...it's rare that it comes out like it does in this song...amazing that buckley could put into three lines of lyric what many people go through their entire lives without actually feeling |

you know what? i have listened to this song religiously for years, and never really knew the real lyrics (until now) or thought about them that much...and i'm usually a lyric freak...but it really had this amazing affect on me anyway...now that i know the lyrics, and exactly what they mean, i think it might actually take somehting away from the song for me...say it ain't so was always this realyl awesome, mysterious song for me, the one song that i never NEEDED to know what the actual lyrics were. woops guess i screwed up just now huh. weezer rules. |

| No Use For A Name – Let Me Down Lyrics

Okay for the first time i'm actually going to answer the question and say what this song means to me.
Honestly, this song has hit home with me more than i think any other has...i feel so much like the "she" in this song that i almost feel unnerved listening to it.
Okay. So there's this girl, who is unhappy and has come to rely on anti-depressants just to keep her sane, and is almost on a self-sabotaging track; basically she's lost all hope. Our gallant speaker is close to the girl, close enough to know everything about her and to want to help her but is constantly kept at arm's reach, yada yada. The interesting thing is the last part of the song...the lines "lonely game of sympathy" and "selfish dream" make me think that the guy has just given up on the girl, that she has done one bad thing too many to herself? and perhaps broken a promise to him in that way...and he is starting to see through her front? i don't know....that's what i see...probably wrong, but in any event this song means a lot to me. |

i don't even know where to begin.
Basically this song gave new meaning to my life. I have never heard a song address so many problems in such a meaningful and stirring way...if you didn't know these issues existed, then this song lets you know. The music alone is incredible, such a mix in tempo, instrumentation...gotta love El Hefe's contributions...but beyond that hte lyrics say so much that this song will go down i think as one of the most important political statements of our time. Speaking of which, isn't that exactly what we need? The youth of prior generations gave a bit of a crap about their world...i think the idea is that the MTV clones have lost that drive, and that's exactly what punk is good for, cultivating a movement that keeps things changing in society, government, giving humanity the kick in the ass it needs. NOFX is the band to do it, of course, and this song is pretty much the herald of hope for our generation. Lucky us!
By the way, i too was lucky enough to see the end of the Decline played in concert, i almost dropped dead. NOFX fuckin rules.
ps homophobes are just pissed cause they can't get laid |

| NOFX – Perfect Government Lyrics

i say this song is NOFX's second best, after of course the Decline, and probably one of their boldest politically. The song that got me interested in them in the first place, and the best song on their best album i think.
A perfect government is the true punker's mantra, conveying the right message: the government is fucked up and we all know it, we're just here to make sure everyone else understands. And we're gonna cuss a lot because we're pissed about it. Awesome. |

this song is so great, it's one of the brilliant NOFX's many novelty songs, but it's just great because it's fun while ROCKING out and just being cool. Love the second verse, it's so fun to sing along to |

First of all, i thought this was a great song, and then i read everyone's comments and realized its actual referent, and now i think it's even greater! one thing though--don't you think it's "let glorious work be done" and not "love"? It's an allusion to something... |
