I think the first part deals with early humans (and in away modern humans too) coming to grips with their insignifigance and the their inability to fully understand the world around them. From there it moves to humans inability to understand each other. We all want to reach out to one another, but this want is tempered by an anxiety and fear. We are afraid that other will see us for what we are if we let them near, so we hide our true selves from one another. This conflict is becoming too much to bear, and finally result in a cry for help. He is afraid to tell you how he feels, so he begs you to try and intuitively read what is written in his mind without him telling you. Please understand me. Then, he backs it up and revals how this is a conflict that we all have to deal with. We all have to read the silence of others in order to understand how they feel and interact with them on a day to day basis. But, then he brings the focus of the song back into the individual. Nobody is understanding, the internal conflict is becoming too great, and a chasm is opening. Because of the stain there is an earthquake in his mind. If only the impossible was possible. |

I think I got a pretty good handle on this song at some level. Its kinda deep down there and murky, but I am going to try and dredge it up and share it with you guys. Probably going to be lenghty, but please read and tell me what you think. I hope it makes sense. >.< -thruth serves them embrace here, "them" could either be the ruling elite, or the subservient masses. If "them" is the ruling elite, then the "truth" is their blanket, embracing them and keeping them cozy in their position of power. If "them" is the subservient masses, then the truth a net cast over them, ebracing them like a cage ebraces a caged lion. -and defend her case This bit is a little more fuzzy for me. I am kinda guessing that its refering to the "her" later in the song. The false truth imposed by the leaders defends and reinforces how she feels. -part flattery, part threats this is explaining how the "truth" (religon/philosopy imposed by the rulers) works. It flatters people, it makes sense to them on some level, but it also keeps them in line. -"for those who cling to this -dominion will partake in it´s fall" this is a warning to the ruling elite. Those who cling to this method of exerting their power will suffer when it all comes crashing down -with his silence, he passes the -judgement over them the "he" is the ruler. Whatever truth he uses to control the people, it puts him in a position of to cast judement over "them" this time "them" the surely being the subservient masses. It is silent because his power is implicit and obvious, unspoken. -"with your feverish signs of force -you´ll make them and yourself to -believe that he still retains his full power" here, "you" are an agent of the ruler. Something akin to a riot police officer, putting down a riot, or a legionare putting down a revolt. You want to make everyone belive that "he" (the ruler) has power, because all of his power comes from their belief. The word feverish implies that this effort is failing, that the people can see through it. -as a platform for divine fondations, -you want to make them suck Here, the "you" has become a little bit less specific. "You" now represents the whole system of opression (it could also mean this the last time it was used). Your "truth" is somehow connected to god, to perfection. Like a platform or a stage, you are holding this link (the divine foundation) up for them (the masses) to see. You want them to belive it, to ingest it. -shallowness and beauty -was all that concerned her body -but the soul, her divine guest -were thrust to the bottom Part shows how people are oblivous to all this while as it happens. "She" represents your average apathetic person. She is concerened with her day to day life, her looks. She is shallow. She is unaware that because of the opressive system in place, her own rights and freedoms have been compromised. Her own spark of divinity (free will) has been thrust to the bottom to make way for the divine "truth" put in place by the ruling elite, by "you". Here, having a soul, having a spark of god (or a divine guest), is equated with having freedom. Her freedom is still there, she still has a soul, but it lies underneath the opressive system in place. -surrendered to the sect all the people that have given up their freedom have surrendered their freedom, their soul, to the "sect" the false truth. -that has risen from it´s womb This one had me thinking. "the sect that has risen from its womb". Its a cirular sentence. The "sect" gives birth to itself. It is self sustaining cycle. -"for those who cling to this -dominion will partake in it´s fall" A repeated warning to the ruling elite. If you cling to this system of opression, you will fall with it. So, I am convinced that is what this song means. But, I was also writing a paper about religon and society when I started thinking about it, so it may very well just be my application. In flames rules! Woo! |

But then my freind was like "no man, I saw the music video, its about war." and my other freind was like "its about destruction." So I was like "spin the bottle kiss only the bottle? when he says, 'take me under your black wings', he is talking about getting wasted." And then they where like "he never said that. what do black wings have to do with alchohal? go watch the music video." so then I got all riled up and I hit em back with a "your mom has a penis" if you read that whole thing I feel sorry for you. |

I don't think that "The sins of the father atoned by the son" is talking about the Bushes. I think it is about how hatred transendes generations and time. The fathers sin is his enemys atonement, and his sons atonement is is the enemys sin. |
