Good catch, I assumed 'gift from the Maccabees to mom to me' was referring to classically Jewish traits that were passed down genetically but I couldn't figure out which line could be a reference to some physical characteristic |

Tim is also from Omaha and this song predates First Day of Your Life by several years. I'm pretty sure the origin of that line is babies are born crying.
And as far as I know Tim has never been romantically involved with Jenny Lewis. The thought creeps me out. |

As far as the 'You went and kicked it in the sun' bit goes, it seems as if he's saying this person abandoned the serene life of TV at three for something that seemed more lavish and exciting. 'The sun stopped its shining' seems like a last laugh sort of thing. 'You left for something fleeting and now all you have is this big giant used-to-be-sun thing. Hope it was worth it all' Or that's what I got from it. |
