I love this song, everyones pretty much go tthe just of it i think, but i never saw anythign about the whole "tide" metaphor. Its like that saying when someones talking about a teenager growing up. "You cant stop the tides from coming" Kinda saying embrace the time now, or " live for the moment " cause nomatter what they are goign to grow up, and soon they will be gone. The beach is childhood, and veronica, since she is the oldest, is watching the waves turn white at the tip, cause thats how you know the tide is coming closer. Vada is watching farther from the water, at veronica doing this(younger, less mature), then in second verse it says that she it jelous of her sister being prettier, which is signifying the innocence of superficiality. Dades hair dancing in the wind signifys how the whole growing up thing is affecting him slightly, while he trys to figure things out, then in second verse he understands more, and hes on the dock, which is ontop of the water, which to me means since he is now the man of the house, he has to me further along the growing up thing, as his sisters, but not actualy prepared to be in the water, cause he is still to young. In the end they all get washed away, and grow up far to fast and yeh the mother, was too caught up in her own depression and warped views on love that she neglected the children, and totaly missed them growing up, untill it was too late. Amazing song. |

i think the whole song can be summed up in these 2 lines "Everybody wants a piece of you, Everyone takes a piece of me" its like hes the guy that everyone knows as the nice guy..to take advantage of, that everyone thinks doesnt deserve such a beautiful girl like who hes dating..but in all reality shes a bitch and he deserves way more..but..maybe hes one of those people who only see the good..and ignor the bad even tho he knows shes like this..and no matter what he does he cant do anything about how he feels for her..he wont say anything.. great song really |

| I think, its about cosmetic surgery, and about realization, 20 20 vision is perfect, and its like, just because u see trough ur eyes perfectly, cause someone did something cosmeticaly, doesnt mean ur not blind to things..its like the whole life style, once u start spendng tons of money on shit to make u look good-then in turn make u feel good-u kinda lose sight of what ur really doing, cause ur too blind to see the fakness of it all. so its like, getting ur eyes done, wont help what ur blind to in the inside...maybe im wrong..but thats just what it is to me. ^_^ | |

| This is an amazing song, that is very well underestimated as one thing, whether it be drugs, or love, or whatever, a song is not suposed to say one thing, it is suposed to say different things to different people, thats the beauty of RHCP, there diverse. now to me the song is about, when your in that state of mind, whether ur in love, on shrooms, weed, any indulgent really..and u hit that point where..wherever you are..your happy..its like in the song, the guy is coming to terms with it.. Zephyr is like a passing wind..so..maybe this high..is temperary.. "Coming down, no not today"..kinda..i duno..u get what u want from it..that was the point i think^_^ | |
