I grew up with this song on the radio amongst others like hendrix, zepplin etc. I love them all. I was just ruminating on this song and realized that it never did 'strike' me as a love song though it can obviosly be interpreted that way and was certainly meant to be. However I have to agree with revisited that the meaning is much deeper than ordinary infatuation in any case. The references to the dawn and the sunshine of love are classic symbolic references to the son of the morning or lucifer. Such symbols are very common today. Probably most will scoff. Ever heard the saying that the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the world that he doesn't exist? Well... I am willing to bet that few believe he ever existed. Remember the fifties and the big conservative knot in the collective shorts that many adults supposedly got when rock music came into popularity? I feel they were not wrong in identifying the modern music as devil inspired, actually the music companies are famous for 'suggesting' lyrics and editing which leaves room, if you can imagine, for their religion to be thus promulgated. However having grown up in this strange musical phenomenon I can't say anything really against it. I think that resist not evil is the best policy no matter what your religion. However i prefer to be informed and actually for most people it is probably better they dont know. Thats my the fruit of my imagination. | these are definately metaphors. Coldplay is very poetic I would say and their lyrics are not concrete. I feel they intend for them to be more accessible this way, but also they have a very interior psych pop orientation, obviously with some spiritual sense. I think the birds flying from the underground are what is below the surface of our previous or usual consciousness. Speed of sound - sound obviously relates to their business, but i feel that was not the intention primarily. There is in the esoteric traditions a way of realization which guides the person by light and sound with the intitiation of a master. Perhaps one or more of them has taken this path OR More personally I relate to the "sound" as all the things i hear each day - sounds or conversations/words which reflect to me my subconscious feelings and ideas which sometimes fly by so quickly that i would otherwise not notice them without little birds whispering in my ear. So I see it mostly as a description of an integrated meditation process in one's experience which reveals the structure of the world and which is simultaneously the gate beyond it. I love these themes of transcendence and passing through. Probably the first band i deeply embraced was "The Doors" so no wonder. The structures of our world have basic and common unconscious dynamics which maintain them until we see and hear them. How long until i begin - i have to disagree with the explanation of it being a question of making it in the career. I think it means getting into the passion and beauty of life. beneath its unconscious structure, beyond that in the True Self. The band said it was related to the times of hiding from the paparazzi in their hotel room? paranoia, feeling overwhelmed, etc. this is struggle with false self -the underground - also to note "the underground" in england is the subway. | well you got me there that's about as good as it gets. i just heard the song DARE as well and it convinced me, being, as jaded as i am that, that feel good, inc is definately about ass cracks as much as i would not say that in most company, but sex and its correlated emotional nature is the gateway they are referencing, i think, back into the childs perspective. | |

it is about the infusion of light from the source of all things which has been increasing steadily for some time now. "I'm stepping in hotter this year" could be god talking or a god talking. chocolate attack is the heat he refers to sex, the gate to the soul, or you might say a common obstruction to the soul realization. so this energy of prime creator is transforming society per any prophecy you can think of and the cities/technified life/artificial is going to be eliminated thus the windmill. the rapper is the spirit if god or an angel or some kind of guide right? he is just telling the story we hear evrywhere. armageddon, transformation, spiritual revival etc. when he tease 2d about feel good he is not setting it up against happiness - combination with your selfish or indulgent nature in the spirit is the ticket so all excess or destructive naturally melt away. |

Well, having the benefit of reading all the posts i have a clear idea of what the song means to me. I think the song is so popular becasue it is so deeply felt by the artists. it is the first death cab song i got into and i'm sold on them. it has a profound sense of loss and sorrow. its burning out the sadness in my brain and cleaning it. i taped it and just keep listening. thats why folks think they know ben by this song alone the sorrow of it is so profound yet it is ear candy too and spiritual in intention so really i think the artist may indeed be revealing more than ever before. maybe? I think it is about a romanitc relationship, but could also be a song about god and his devotee. it is of spiritual dimension. the water and sun are indeed purifiers of the spirit as well as air simply by so invoking them eg. christian baptism. i think it is also as said about a potential for loss of loved one in body, but such that the idea raised the sorrows of the past and thus the reference to washing each other. greyhound station reminds me of imagination especially in prayer when thoughts can have effect at distance and so this does not simply imply lack of life satisfaction but only of a certain kind. which has kept from the body. naturally when meeting your lover your body gets very involved and spirit can meet it. also spiritual traditions refer to the gate of spirit as sex. and indeed it is certain that the sexual life and the emotional character are mirror images of each other. so when those obstacles are removed in love then soul meets body like when a child but then deeper. i think the hands washing each other is about the going beyond mere joyous animal nature so that the consciousness becomes spiritualized when sex in love relation is tamed to the spirit of love. that is my dream of love life. also when ben says i send my thoughts... that they find a place better 'suited' than here. i think suited is the operative word and intentionally so. when the lovers meet they are so vulnerable, not like they imagined it in the mind alone but now their vital nature is exposed! :) so of course the thoughts are 'suited'. and better than here well when mind and body dreams and life are seperate then it is a rather hellish thing thought many can relate i think. lol. so of course mind seeks the better circumstance yet it is found only where mind meets body or where mind ceases to obstruct the soul meeting the body. whew. i love this song! I think the silence at first is meditation or bliss in loved ones company but now i see by fans reporting that indeed it meant death. yet i still like the idea of the silence being the spirit or spiritual consciousness/experience however i feel certain that death was poetically meant by that now that it has been mentioned. |
