I like Unearth77's interpretation too; I never thought of it that way. It always sounded to me like a guy, who was already in a relationship, had sex with a girl once (probably when one or both of them was drunk or something like that). "The situations are irrelevant now" means he doesn't care how they met up or that he's already taken, he just wants to have sex with her. What was intended to be a one night stand ended up turning into a full-on affair. They continued having sex, but agreed to not say anything about it. The girl started getting uncomfortable with it, but he tried convincing her that it was alright ("You know you love all the lies") and that it made their relationship more exciting. She ended up getting fed up with it and started telling people about it. He (still trying to keep his other girl) denied everything she said, hence the "Honestly that never happened, lying is your favorite passion". |

Here's my interpretation: This guy got in a relationship and got so wrapped up in being with his girlfriend that he kind of drifted from his friends a bit. Hence the "all the friends that I have gone through and how much I deserve the pain". The girl he was with, or whatever scene he got drug into, caused him to start exhibiting self-destructive behavior. He was partly using the drugs to help him ignore the fact that his friends weren't really there anymore. When he realized what was going on, he got kind of scared and started seeing that he wasn't ready to be in such a serious relationship. He was trying to figure out how to get out of it (presumably without hurting anyone), and his friends pulled through for him and helped him out. |

| This song is pretty straight forward, like everyone said, but something else I got from it was that maybe his mom died from drug use instead of just abandoning him and his family. He sees his brother falling into the same habits of drug abuse that his mother had, and its getting bad enough that he thinks his brother will die soon if he doesn't get away from it all. To me, the "if you see mother" part is him kind of saying "if you pass, just let her know I'm doing alright". *shrugs* Could be wrong, thats just the way it seemed to me when I first heard it. | |

i fully agree with teenage-death-girl this songs about how some "fans" of FFTL will say stuff that could completely tear apart anyone's self-esteem. just go to the fftl.net galleries. some of the comments on his pictures are really rude the bulimic thing could've just been a metaphor for something, or something he added in to emphasize the meaning of the song, but judging how personal and specific the rest of the song is, i kind of doubt that. we know from his myspace that he is into dieting. he listed Atkin's as one of his interests. and if you look carefully at pictures of him from when fftl began up to now, you can see that he did loose some weight. he got really skinny for a while there, and he looked quite sick, to be honest. so i'd say that, at least in the past, he did struggle with some form of eating disorder. i'm not really sure on the details of what happened with his surgeries, but i heard he had to get some operations on his throat earlier this year. bulimia could actually have been part of the cause. when you throw up, stomach acids come up with the food and if you are throwing up after every meal, those acids will eat away at the lining of your esophagus and cause you to be prone to throat infections, laryngitus, etc. |

| jonbash, i see where you're coming from. it does seem like most of the time when you talk to someone about From First To Last, instead of talking about the actual music they start going on about how incredibly sexy sonny is. but you do have to realize, not all the fans are like that. i didn't get into FFTL by seeing a picture of them. in fact, i didn't know what they looked like until after i'd heard plenty of their songs and i'd bought Dear Diary. frankly, i didn't care who they were, just as long as they kept making good music. i still think that way. and i do agree with you that this song is very sexual, but its not meant to be taken seriously. it really is, in my opinion, just a very sarcastic song that was probably written to make fun of how the music industry has become so centered around appearance. one thing that you said that i'm curious about, though, is that they seem like they intentionally wear clothes to make them seem sexy. i really don't see that in them. at least not all the time. granted, sonny does own a couple pairs of jeans that are far too tight to be even remoltely comfortable, but most of the time they just wear jeans and hoodies or random t-shirts. its only in the photoshoots where they really have no control over what they're wearing that they consistently have on tight jeans and tight shirts. take a look at some fan photos of them or stuff from concerts, you don't see them dressed that way very often. please know that i'm not angry with you for sharing your opinion and i hope this post didn't come across as rude because it was most certainly not meant to be. i would really appreciate it if you respond to this, though. thank you | |
