This is my most favourite song EVER! For me this song isn't about a relationship with a girl, it's about Fall Out Boy's relationship with their fans. I think most of the lines are metaphors for how they see their fans. I could be hopelessly wrong, but hey! music is about interpretation and opinion. "You only hold me up like this Cause you don't know who I really am" A lot of Fall Out Boy songs talk about them being liars, and I think they are saying here that their dont' know them, don't know who they are, what they've been through, and yet they still buy their records and love them to scrummy bits. "We're making out inside crashed cars" I think is a metaphor for the fans being in love with Fall Out Boy, but its never going to go anywhere, because, well, crashed cars don't move much. The majority of songs on "Take this to your grave" are personal songs about their lives and experiences, while most on "From under the cork tree" seem to be written to fans and critics. "I used to waste my time dreaming of being alive...(I used to write songs about me)...now I only waste it dreaming of you...(now I write songs about you [the fans])". "Turn off the lights and turn of the shyness" to me is about their shows were the lights are down and everyone just dances without feeling insecure, and Fall Out Boy's "moves" fill the silence when they play. Now that Fall Out Boy are famous they know that they will "never be the same" again because of the way their fans have loved them so much - "Your make-up stains my pillow case". I love Fall Out Boy |
