The lyrical content is a bit cliche. Amazing song musically, however.
It seems to me that the song is about someone really reserved and shy, feeling like they're "fading away". It's a cry for help for anyone to help them drop their inhibitions (tear down these walls) and for someone to understand that they have so much more depth than they put out on display (You are the only one who knows I'm holding back).
I can relate in my own suburban-middle-class-white-kid kind of way. :P |

I beleive this song reflects on the frail nature of our lives. How easily things can change if you can't keep up or time starts to pass you by. As they say, you can go from boom to bust (not that it has anything to do with the Great Deperssion) |

Standard 80s cheese lyrics that you've gotta love. "3rd degree SENSUAL homicide" is classic. It's obviously about a chick who treats the narrator badly, but he keeps coming back to her.
Not the toughest code to crack. I love the riff and that one pinch harmonic. |
