Brooks and Dunn – Red Dirt Road Lyrics 18 years ago
"I went out into the world, and I came back in
I lost Mary, but I got her back again"

Beautiful words there. A message of God's grace and forgiveness :-)

Meat Loaf – Blind As A Bat Lyrics 18 years ago
"I'm not afraid of the past of my sins
'Cause I paid for the wrongs I did"

...These aren't the correct lyrics though. The correct ones are:

"I'm not afraid of the price/past of my sins,
I curse the day for/of the wrongs I did."

No doubt, the song is about something higher than 'aww bless, she loves this man so much x x x"

Again... read these words:

"I'm not afraid when they kick me down
I'm not afraid when I start to bleed
I'm not afraid if I live or die
I'm not afraid 'cause I believe"

To say that's the love of a woman for a man.. no... again that's futile...

If Meat were to have put 'God' instead of 'baby'... how many morons would scoff at the scoff as being 'wussy' and 'religious'... listen t most love songs, and replace 'baby' with 'Lord'.. then they reach a new level.

Tim McGraw – Walk Like A Man Lyrics 19 years ago
It's also about a man being held down by his past, thinking he can't be anything more than what his father is or what he has been told that he is, by Satan or other people. He doesn't feel he can break free from his past:

"When the sins of the father
Are the sins of the son
All you do is crawl when you wanna run"

"Your daddy's demons are calling your name
Don't you listen to 'em cause they got no claim"

God is reaching out to him though:

"Come on, stand up straight. I'm proud of you. Take my hand. I know you can walk like a man"

Tim McGraw – Can't Tell Me Nothin' Lyrics 19 years ago
I disagree. I don't think the moral is 'go with your gut feeling and you'll be happy'. I think it's the opposite of that. The moral is 'told you so..', 'we warned you'. It's about a young man ignoring advice from his elders, thinking he knows what's best for himself and ending up making decisions that he later regrets:

"I had to find out for myself the hard way".

Mistakes he made:

- Blowing a load of money fixing up a motorcycle that breaks down instantly.
- Ending up stuck with a girl who wasn't right for him in the long term.
- Becoming dependant on drink and tobacco to make him happy.

He realises he's made bad decisions in his life, However he ultimately remains the same, stubborn in his ways and continues to refuse to listen to good advice. His excuse is, 'It's the way I am - I can't change because my nature". He feels he is unreachable. He has a belief in God, but won't let God help him out, thinking that even God couldn't change the person that he is.

God's unfailing love. To interpret this song as 'a woman's faithful love for her man' is very futile and unoriginal. It's clearly about something much higher than that because of this:

"I'm not afraid when they kick me down
I'm not afraid when I start to bleed
I'm not afraid if I live or die
I'm not afraid 'cause I believe"

Ana Johnsson – We Are Lyrics 19 years ago
"keep watching from your picket fence"

Right now, I aim that at the anti-Bush and anti-war bandwagon who protest against any involvement in the Middle East crisises because their lives are far too cushy... They don't want to hear about any countries that are worse off than they are that are going through suffering. So long as they are happy, they don't really care about what's going on in other parts of the world, so long as it doesn't affect them.

Meat Loaf – Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through Lyrics 20 years ago
There's no doubt about it - this song is God telling someone with a broken heart that He is there for them... He will help them, that He knows what they are going through and will be walking alongside them through it. Lyris that stand out particularly:

"I treasure your love, I never want to lose it
You've been through the fires of hell
And I know you've got the ashes to prove it
I treasure your love, I want to show you how to use it
You've been through a lot of pain in the dirt
And I know you've got the scars to prove it
Remember everything that I told you,
And I'm telling you again that it's true
When you're alone and afraid, and you're completely amazed
To find there's nothing anybody can do
Keep on believing, and you'll discover baby"

-God is saying "keep trusting in me - I know what you are going through and I am here always"

"And when you really really need it the most
That's when rock and roll dreams come through"

-When you least expect it.. that's when God often moves in your life.

"You're never alone cause you can put on the phones
And let the drummer tell your heart what to do"

-God is there for your all the time - at anytime of the day or night.

Meat Loaf – Out of the Frying Pan (And Into the Fire) Lyrics 20 years ago
To me, all songs, like all art are a 'question mark'. There is no one definite interpretation of a song and that's what makes them fascinating and powerful - almost everyone can get something out of a song that reaches to them...
To me it's about God reaching out to someone searching:
"It's only two o'clock and the temperature's beginning to soar
And all around the city you see the walking wounded and the living dead" - the world without God.
"Then I saw you like a summer dream
And you're the answer to every prayer that I ever said
I saw you like a summer dream
And you're the answer to every prayer that I ever said"
"I've seen you sitting on the steps outside
And you were looking so restless and reckless and lost
I think it's time for you to come inside
I'll be waiting here with something that you'll never forget" - God saying 'invite me in'
"Come on, come on and there'll be no turning back
You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back"

"So wander down to the ancient hallway, taking the stairs only one at a time
Follow the sound of my heartbeat now
I'm in the room at the top, you're at the end of the line"
"So wander down to the ancient hallway, taking the stairs only one at a time
Follow the sound of my heartbeat now
I'm in the room at the top, you're at the end of the line"
"Out of the frying pan (and into the fire)"
