A little history of Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge (Since no one here has yet accurately described them): In 1975, the Cambodian communist revolutionary organization, known as the Khmer Rouge, seized power in Cambodia, led by their leader, Pol Pot. He immediately ordered all of the cities and towns emptied, and reorganized most of the Cambodian population into "collective farms" (Which were basically forced labor camps). They were a lot like the Stalinist gulag camps, but almost everyone was sent to them. Everyone with an education was executed on the spot, or anyone they suspected of being an "intellectual" (Which included everyone who wore glasses). In 1979, the Vietnamese invaded and removed the Khmer Rouge from power, although they continued to exist until 1998, when Pol Pot finally died. Conservative estimates put the death toll of the Khmer Rouge atrocities at 20 percent of the entire population. However, the U.S. never had any direct involvement in these affairs, so the song really can't be about U.S. foreign policy. I'd agree that it's about spoiled western kids who have no idea how good they've got it. But the irony of the song is that Cambodia is becoming a popular tourist destination now the country has stablized. A holiday in Cambodia is actually an attractive possibility for many people nowadays. My sister and her husband currently live there and own a photo gallery that caters to tourists, and I myself am scheduled to move there in a couple of months. |

| The Crystal Method – Trip Like I Do Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| According to this fan site (www.gotmeth.net), the voice in the background is a girl who Scott had met at a club who called him up a few days later, while she was tripping, and left that message on the answering machine. | |
