you know; i'm not so sure that Arienette is a protector or a source of strength for Conor. In the song Jetsabel Removes the Undesirables, Conor says: "my Arienette, oh, how soon you'll forget, this house will never be your home. and you will leave in the fall when the trees become graves and their color lies dead in the grass." meaning that although she's with him right then, he knows she'll leave. the fact that she will one day leave could be something he's known all along, from somewhere towards the beginning of their relationship, and in this song, he's just going through something really rough [maybe something in his life has gone horribly wrong, or he's just emotionally messed up], and he's begging her to stay "until the wolves are away", or, until everything in his life is a little more stable; a little more...normal, because he doesn't think that he can stand her leaving him while he's in such a fragile condition. |

0.o woah first comment. anyways, i could be completely wrong, but i think this song is about someone who feels trapped in their small town. he's in love with someone else that's trapped in that town ["i'm trapped in a mirror, and you're certainly no hammer"] he loves her, so he's not going to leave the town ["my burning eyes are after you"] but he doesn't really mean anything to her, he's just another boy. ["so add another notch, in your painted town i'll rot as another nameless block."] so yeah. that's pretty much the best i could do. |

ok, just a thought, but i think this is called "no seatbelt song" because him loving her is bad for him...like not wearing a seatbelt. he knows that it's bad and that he should be more careful, but he does it anyways. if that makes any sense? |

Okay I think this song is an extension of the Demolition Lovers story. He's saying that no matter what happens, they'll find some way to carry on and be together. When she dies, he goes to play music/sing for her every night (or he keeps performing and doing concerts to get his mind off her, i can't decide which it is.) I agree about the "from the lights to the pavement/from the van to the floor/from backstage to the doctor/from the earth to the morgue" part being about him being drunk all the time. And at the end, when he says "all fall down/well after all", he's saying that even though at the beginning of the song they were close and could find a way through anything, they will end up dying eventually, even after everything they went through. That's just what I get out of it, although it's probably wrong. Fucking genius song, it's gorgeous and it gave me chills. =] |
