| Lady GaGa – Alejandro Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This isn't necessarily about the song, but from Wikipedia I found this piece of info about the concept for the music video for "Alejandro" that was released on June 8, 2010: In May 2010, Gaga told The Times about the concept of the video: "[It's about the] purity of my friendships with my gay friends, and how I've been unable to find that with a straight man in my life. It's a celebration and an admiration of gay love– it confesses my envy of the courage and bravery they require to be together. In the video I'm pining for the love of my gay friends– but they just don't want me to be with them." |

| Lauryn Hill – Doo Wop (That Thing) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Wikipedia's users-submitted article for this song claims "that thing" is a reference to, from what I understand, sources of self-destruction or ways of thinking that are self-limiting. Here's the current version of the Wikipedia article... if not 100% correct, it still seemed like a pretty interesting interpretation: "The song is a warning from Hill to African-American men and women caught in 'the struggle'. Both the women who 'try to be a hardrock when they really are a gem', and the men who are 'more concerned with his rims, and his Timbs, than his women', are admonished by Hill, who warns them not to allow 'that thing', whatever it may be, to ruin their lives." |

No one else loves this song? Well I do. Not that I know who Saint Jerome is... |

| Billy Joel – We Didn't Start the Fire Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think a big part of this song is that the current generation of people are faced with events and things that they themselves did not create or were in any way responsible for. The "fire" was created by those of the previous generations who left the fallout of their actions to the current (most recent) generation of people. I see the "fire" as being all of the events that make the modern world go round. |

| Kerli – The Creationist Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I'm fairly certain this song is anti-religious creationism. She changes it up by saying that SHE is a creationist, referring to the fact that she actually creates things (with her imagination and musical art, etc.) unlike the religious creationists who merely weigh humanity down by believing they are better than everyone else and by feeling they have the right to dictate the lives of others. |

| The Rosebuds – Hold Hands and Fight Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i think there's a much darker undertone that's being missed judging from the previous two evaluations of the meaning of this song that were given. Like: "I have told myself I know A thousand ways to leave this place" I mean, what a dark beginning to a song!. |

| Radiohead – House of Cards Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song appears to be incomplete compared to the version they ended up releasing on the new In Rainbows album. Like there's a part that says "Throw your keys into a bowl" I believe. | |
| Shakira – Hips Don't Lie Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think the line everyone's so curious about refers to the line preceding it. He pulls out all the Spanish words he knows to communicate with the senorita. Shakira gets too much guff from the Latino community for opening up her music to more of the world by writing, recording and performing in English. They call her a sell out. Yeah, she's selling out every where she goes now... |

| The Dresden Dolls – Good Day Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I agree with most people's interpretations thus far, so I'd like to mention something that I got from the song that I haven't heard anyone say yet. "but jesus think about the bridges you are burning and i'm betting that even though you knew it from the start you'd rather be a bitch than be an ordinary broken heart" To me this line expresses the fact that she was left for someone else. If the person she was referring to simply broke up with her they would have been an "ordinary broken heart," but instead they left her for someone else, which would be why the person she is referring to is a "bitch." The reason the "bridges are being burned" is because that person left her for someone else and so there is pretty much no help of reconciliation; also, she suspects that the person that she mentions knew all along that they were gonna leave her for someone else ["and i'm betting that even though you knew it from the start..."] which is also another reason the bridge is being burned. -NL |

| Death Cab for Cutie – We Laugh Indoors Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is about being cheated on and the breakup aftermath of it all. Within the stories about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table the fact that Guinevere cheated on Arthur with Lancelot, the greatest knight to have ever existed, is specifically mentioned. The line "so i breed thicker skin and let my lustrous coat fill in and i'll never admit that i loved you guenivere" is Gibbard lamenting the loss of someone he loved and him using the name Guinevere is an analogy that he brings up. He was cheated on and now he is dealing with the fact that he really did love her at one point. I also believe that he lived with this girlfriend for a period of time. The line "There are piles on the floor of artifacts from dresser drawers, and i'll help you pack" refers to all the keepsakes they collected throughout their relationship and now that she has to leave, she's packing it all up and Gibbard, though sad that it is now necessary for her to leave, helps her pack it all up. | |
