What a lovely song. I take it as another song about nostalgia, or about life seen in the continuum of time. We are all what we remember, a bundle of memories more than anything else. Nick captured this perpetual yearning everyone has in such an apt way, at such a young age! In particular, the last line is a gem for me, a nice way to sum up everything. "So Sunday sat in the Saturday sun, and wept for a day gone by" Sunday is all of us, and Saturday sun the good old days, always slipping away into the past. We always yearn for them, just as Sunday wept for the Saturday now gone by. It is one cleaver way to depict that nostalgic sentiment in our hearts. |
