| Nine Inch Nails – Sunspots Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I feel this song, especially the lines: She turns me on She makes me real I have to apologize For the way I feel My life, it seems, has taken a turn Why in the name of God would I ever want to return? And nothing can stop me now (stop me now) There is nothing to fear (fear) And everything I'd ever want (ever want) Is inside of here (of here) - I think it's mostly about being completely held captive by a woman (emotionally, physically, psychically). It could be about drugs but personally I don't associate drugs with feeling sexy (could be true, I only hit the booze and pot once in a while, but neither make me feel sexy in the least) |

| Queens of the Stone Age – Do It Again Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
yeah, it's not specifically oral sex, it's sex in general. I think it's about a non-relationship but not strictly about use-and-lose sex, obviously with: "I don't know, I don't know how long I got till it's over" and "Where will you go when we all fall away" It's more like he's saying I love you but I know this isn't going to last. |

| Eels – Understanding Salesman Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I like explaining obvious things. Firstly title: understanding salesman (a guy courting some girl) He's all by himself with honest intentions, but he has to sell himself to prove that. He'd rather spend time (well, lots of time) with a girl. But he's just a bug on the windshield to most women. So he thinks he does not matter (to women again I guess). That's my interpretation, of course most of e's stuff seems to be sad pathetic romantic guy type stuff. |

| The Dresden Dolls – Dirty Business Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
lets see, if you don't think this is about a manipulative bitch of a girl, you have serious problems and you are either: a. one of these types (im bipolar, anything crazy I do is immediately excused) b. too naive This is about the type of girl all nice guys should completely avoid at all costs, they feed on joe average lonely guy. No there is no "alternate interpretation" either. |

| Nirvana – Dumb Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The explanations of the drugs making him an underachiever make much sense. Pot makes me feel stupid personally, but of course, also pretty happy. I don't think it's related to heroin. I also feel like the first comments with the introverted exile's outlook on love, but more than a few nirvana songs have that theme so I'm willing to put that one to bed. |

| Beastie Boys – Sabotage Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I know it's far from the original meaning (if there's theme at all) but I think this song applies to women in online dating (you're scheming on a thing that's a mirage, I'm trying to tell you all it's a sabotage) any online daters (spec. guys) know what I'm talking about? If I see another "tired to toads" or "waiting for prince" - SABOTAGE! - of course then I get to see "no more players" oh fun... of course bits like "I know you planned it" ruin the analogy, but most of the other stuff fits well. |

| The Von Bondies – Right Of Way Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think it's about a guy who isn't successful with women (in the sense of relationships), he meets one who will hang around, however she doesn't respect or love him. He thinks he's the one who has more business in seeking love (since he wants to love, not use and ignore) hence the right of way (he wants to leave and pass her by). Second verse is about how she now wants to control his life and cut him off from other women who would clearly be better for him. She thinks he should feel guilty like he's the one who the user. I think there's a bit of a "fake" relationship going on but he doesn't want to end it, he wants her to make the break. |

| Kris Kristofferson – Just the Other Side of Nowhere Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's about being a stranger in a big city full of assholes. He wants to get back home where things are friendly and bright again. | |
| Cake – End of the Movie Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's about roughing it out in life and knowing that things will only manage to get much worse, but you still don't to leave before the end of the movie. | |
| Cake – Dime Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
my favorite track on pressure chief, belongs with Frank Sinatra and Long Line of Cars, it's awesome when they pull out the Moog goodness. of course it's "cost a brand new dime" and not lost a brand new dime... and yes, it's about being a dime a dozen, but not really giving a fuck because you know you're unique. |

| Built to Spill – Liar Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think it's about getting lost in the details of life. Sometimes it's just about living life and trying to be happy in the moment. Planning the perfect career or perfect marriage is temporary, all passions fade. Mother Nature is timeless, she doesn't care about your petty life. Eh maybe, could be about a girl...I sure as hell hope not, no bitch ever brought me happiness. |

| Eels – I Like Birds Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I don't buy the mother bit, I don't see anything related and it's easy to just say his mother had books about birds, plausible, but sounds really silly when you think about it. I'll go with the freedom aspect of birds, they can just fly above all the shit that goes on below without care minding their own business. I like the chorus, I don't think there's too much to draw there other than he's talking about birds again... of course writing a song about birds is a pretty silly...but it's a fun song all the same. |

| Cake – Ain't No Good Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's about a guy getting completely rolled by a chick, very simple. | |
| Nine Inch Nails – You Know What You Are? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think it's simple, but I think people here have misinterpreted it grossly (would have happened) it's about trying to get through society the only possible way, but covering up what you really are. He (not personally implying Trent, but who knows) tries to meet his goals by "slipping by" with a few lies here and there. Everyone has to do it, maybe he has to do it more because he isn't "normal" by others standards (as example, if you like being alone, people single you out as strange) so he has to "patch up the cracks and the holes that I _HAVE_ to hide" Sooner or later people figure it out, because people are nosey and the more you get into their business the more they must know about you. They figure it out just when it hurts the most, and you're instantly placed in the bad books. The second verse seals it IMO, he is saying that he's been called out for who he is, he tried to believe he could be what others wanted, but it really didn't change anything (he's who he is, that can't be changed). So he can go back to where he belongs (alone maybe?) Anyhow, other people don't mind being complete fakes, lead around by trends and other bullshit. And to those people reading: DON'T YOU FUCKING KNOW WHAT YOU ARE? |

| Nine Inch Nails – Where Is Everybody? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think that to an extent the song is about what has been mentioned previous, expecting someone to be there. More than that it speaks to me being rejected from a group because you aren't meeting their standards. Lines like "I never wanted to be like you" are a good example of this. Even in adult life, you have to buy in to a group mentality to exist, becoming more individualized (couldn't think of a better word, maybe selfish but I don't see it quite that way) hurts your standing. "I wish I could stay but every day everything pushes me further away" I think the last part is that by putting up with group bullshit (and all groups are, even families) is too much for him: "god damn I am so tired of pretending of wishing I was ending when all I'm really doing is trying to hide and keep it inside and fill it with lies open my eyes? maybe I wish I could try" You have to shut away everything personal because in a group, people only hear what they want to hear, that's why they're numb to anything contrary you have to say. I think he's looking for that person, but not having any luck. so that's my opinion, maybe it's just a deeper explaination of what others are saying, or maybe I'm way off. |

| Pearl Jam – I Am Mine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
My interpretation is that this song (as has been said) is about being yourself, but I think importantly it's about not living your life how others that bind you feel (or worse) MAKE you live. Of course few people get to live as their true selves and make personal compromises in order to live a comfortable life with less pain (eg. few truely love their job, but many lie to themselves until it becomes truth) You have an ocean of people under this same circumstance, it's suffocating and more painful than if one had just accepted the pain in the first place and retained one's true self. Lines like "The sorrow grows bigger when the sorrow's denied" mean to me that denying your pain only makes it more difficult to face further down the road and errode away at your true self. In order to avoid more pain people lie to others (as well as themselves) just to fit in or not be rejected - this fits with the first line but also means that if you can't be yourself then any meaning is lost over time. So basically, above all, being yourself is an important thing to never lose, no matter what situation you happen to be in. |
