The Mars Volta – Cut That City Lyrics 18 years ago
I feel the lyrics of this song describe a very futuristic society that is being corrupted by the misuse of technology, religion, and authority. Cedric sings "this marabout isn't untouchable, indentured by servitude", I think meaning that someone who holds a faith very close to them is just as open to error as anyone else. One of my personal favorites.

At the Drive-In – Pattern Against User Lyrics 19 years ago
The lyrics in this song are very cryptic (like most ATDI lyrics), and of course filled with science fiction references. But they seem to describe a very unpleasant situation. The verses tell what's actually happening to the user, and the chorus makes it clear that the user is in jeopardy (follow - pattern against user, dilated, etc.).

Then something very, very cool happens, or at least this is how I interpret it:

At about 1:44-45, immidiately after the bass break, the guitar hits two notes that you might hear if you press the "Pause" button in a video game. That's what I think ATDI was going for here; I think the idea here is that the situation is being paused. Then Cedric sings about time running out, and that the user needs to take control (and fast!).

Then after all of that, the listener is left in suspense, because there aren't any more verses to describe the fate of the user! Just the chorus, just restating that the user is at serious risk.

I was thinking maybe that the "user" is the same character portrayed in One-Armed Scissor, meaning that the user commits suicide because he knows he's going to die anyways, far away from his family, in outer-space. But who knows, maybe they're different characters.

Excellent song!

The Mars Volta – The Bible And The Breathalyzer Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about Omar squeezing in every SAT word he can find in his dictionary into an intentionally fucked up poem that goes nowhere and makes zero sense. Besides that, L'via is rockin!
