Heh, that's apparently what H thought it was about, too, until John Helmer told him it was literally about AIDS.

To me, the song is about that guilty conscience, something you did in your past that you just can't escape. The alternate angle feels less meaningful, in my opinion, although it bears the same idea, in a more tangible sense.

Heh, not Russian, but Latin. It's "Lacrimosa dies illa, qua resurget ex favilla judicandus homo reus. Huic ergo parce, Deus," indeed from Mozart's Requiem.

If you'll notice, as well, the Icarus bits are a kind of translation of that, literally, "That day of tears and mourning, when from the ashes shall arise, all humanity to be judged. Spare us by your mercy, Lord." Icarus, of course, who flew too close to the sun with wax wings, and fell to the ground.

I think this song is about not just futility, but more how mourning is futile. Or more what a strange custom it is. But, more than that, and I'll have to think more...
