i personally like it better when Big Star does it, but elliott smith is a close second.
i think it's about first love. but maybe he's a bit older than her? "outlaw for my love" and her dad is all pissed off about it. |

i live in a town by a river, and my friends and i found this secluded little spot, in the woods between the river and the train tracks. and i just sit there by myself and listen to this song, skipping rocks, as the train goes by. it's lovely. |

i personally think that this song is about two people in a relationship who are completly in love with eachother, but one of them is hesitant to throw themselves into a commited relationship. like she doesn't know how to be in a relationship, but she's already drowning in love (it's a silly time to learn to swim on the way down) and she's just making excuses to avoid their problems (i've got time to wonder, to waste, and to whine, but when it comes to you i haven't got the time) but he wont take it, and finally tells her that she's being stupid and that he loves her &such. (he grabs me by the hand, and drags me to the shore, and says maybe you don't love me now, but you'll grow to love me even more) and by the end, she agrees (i'm not surprised)

i love love love this song. evan dando did a cover which is on the Empire Records Soundtrack, which i loved and looked up which led me to Big Star. Their hippie folk rock sound is so unique and amazing. |
