A Perfect Circle – Brena Lyrics 19 years ago
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breña_Baja
Here's some information on 'an' island. Whether it has anything to this song, I'm not sure (and I don't think its important anyhow).
To me this song is much more than just a statement of love. IT's too uh trite. I agree with Pikki; the purpose of music is mainly to induce feeling, and imho, none succeeds better than Brena (in mer de noms that is - sadly, its probably due to its more conventional melody). But if I had to suggest something 'intellectual', I'd say this song is about human's desire to BE vulnerable. We all believe strength is the key to happiness, but through this song, we realize that all we want is helplessness (and freedom) - to feel 'crystal blue water engulfing [us]'. To be bathed in sweet melody. Props to pikki.

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 19 years ago
'learn to swim' is to learn to be free; learn to navigate the sea. Free from what? Free from everything L.A. and 'Sunny' California represents; all the things that society define as being 'fun' and 'hip' - 'the gangsta wannabes' and 'hairpins' etc.
Its interesting that he 'prays' at the end though; Maynard guy isn't very religious yea? Coupled with the fact that he starts appealing a 'mom' for help... conveys a real sense of weakness. Also, he's pleading the audience to not regard him as a pessimist and to read between the lines. Simply said, he's aware of the fact that his argument is futile.
Everyone yearns for the machine; you can try raging at it all you want, but you're just gna end up putting a dent on it, den repairing it all over again.
Unless of course, armageddon comes! Den we can all just chill and watch all the shit that is ourselves wash away.

Opeth – Hours of Wealth Lyrics 19 years ago
I think if it was only about 'suicide', the guy would have been more explicit. Its deliberately ambiguous. The song title itself, 'Hours of wealth' implies something positive; so even if its about suicide, it sure as hell got nothing to do with the devil; really dunno wat u guys are on about.
My two cents: the song's bout escape, figuratively speaking. Running away from the things that cause him pain; 'fever' is disease caused by external influence. I like to think that its escape from the norm; people and their habits. He hides behind windows; tries to 'recognize' people instead of merely speaking to them.; he doesn't want to be a drone anymore. Also, he is in darkness, because people have become so addicted to habits that when they finally find themselves alone, they realize how empty they actually are.
But he will find purpose again. He will 'rediscover' himself, and arise once more.
I mean come on. Suicide? Devils? Satan even? So pessimistic. Song has a real jazzy feel as well, arguably, to help supplement that feeling of escape.
