| Placebo – In The Cold Light Of Morning Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Well, I know exactlt what this song is about as i have experienced 'the cold light of day' Ecstacy is normally taken during the night hours and depending on the amount you could be 'up' through the whole night. While other people not on ecstacy drop like flies around you because of the booze they have consumed all night, while you cary on regardless. when you're the only one up its a whole lot lonesome, but when you have someone with you, you chat for ages about stuff that doesn't realy matter. "Forget past indiscretions and stolen possessions" obviously refers to the high of ecstacy as your mind becomes unclouded and a lot friendlier, and though someone did something to offend you, you tend to let bygones be bygones because you want to be friends. "Staring back from the mirrors A face that you don't recognise" refers to the lack of blood in your face on a come down, you look as white as a sheet, this is also because of the cold. Ecstacy raises your body temperature whilst you're on it, and as soon as you come off it, your body temp shrinks back down so you feel freezing even if you're inside a house. And like I said, most comedowns occur just before or as morning breaks, thus creating "The cold light of morning". However, one thing that no one else has picked up on (And I don't know why not) is at the last verse Molko changes the lyric of 'Morning' to 'Day' suggesting the feeling is prolonged, which in itself is a sign of addiction, to feel so cold without something, but also suggests that the protaganist is not aware of their addiction. and the "Tomorrows only a kettle whistle away" is an obvious sign that they intend to continue using. secondly, i just want to say about the "You're drunk sick from whoring" i think thats supposed to be "Your" and not "You're". as in to suggest a partner who's been unfaithful and then been sick and passed out (No doubt probably in the toilet) oh yeah, and I love this song. Somehow a very dark song streaked with melodic light. |

| Moby – Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
sure its melancholy, but the real question is, the video. The video is full of symbolic messages, the most obvious being that though we have society, we all feel alone some times. seriously, and how symbolic is "the man in the moon" who also appears in natural blues, who is he mean't to represent? God, Moby or Us? |
|
| Moby – Natural Blues Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I saw this differently, "Don't nobody know my troubles but god" i thought was a way of saying the protaganist (The Person singing) was like a god, and that his troubles, unlike human troubles, were closer to the troubles that god has, thus god knows his troubles better than anyone and can empathise with him. It could also mean that the protaganist knows himself better than anyone else, and doesn't have to share his problems because he can deal with it himself. but this just might be me overlooking the simplicity of it. |

| Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It took me a while, I realised where the first few notes of the song come from. Its the generic jingle used before announcements at a train station (read into this what you will). But as for the song itself, i think its simply about indifference and non reactivness to life in general. Essentially, I'm taking about a walking talking waking coma...called life. | |
| Vanessa Carlton – A Thousand Miles Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I liked it, for about the few seconds she doesn't sing. The piano is v/good, but she just drives me nuts, her voice is irritating and she looks like anna faris from the first two scary movies! also...hahaha...butt | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Slow Dawn Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Also one of my favourites. I simply think its about insomnia, and the fact you get to see the dawn instead of a nights sleep. | |
| Michael Jackson – Man In The Mirror Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song. although I understand its actual meaning, i still find it humorous to look on it with a schizophrenic perspective. "Man in the mirror" heh heh. | |
| Dream Theater – Solitary Shell Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Just a good song. I relate to it. but this autism and Aspurger syndrome thing, i don't think so. I have personally haven't seen anyone with either of these afflictions "Writing for hours at a time" I maintain this is simply about schizophrenia and delusions of grandeur, The Daydreamer that is portrayed is why people relate very well with this song. Kicks ass anyway. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Silverfuck Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| that video idea is far too conceptual for this song. abstract it down a bit. lose the love story, the special powers. Just have a bunch of people kicking the snot out of each other. good song. I'm not even gonna try to figure it out. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Cherub Rock Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Top song. the middle finger of Siamese dream. Silverfuck being the index finger. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – French Movie Theme Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this is a good song, really catchy. although the meaning eludes me somewhat. Cryptic writing at its best. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Doomsday Clock Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| lmao i think if the jackals were licking their balls it would add a new dimension to the song. and people would be arguing over the meaning of the jackals licking their balls. But anyway...the song isn't exactly a brain buster in lyrical terms. but the real question is, Who's bound to kill us all? Transformers? the government? brilliant apocalypse anthem, they should play over the four minute warning. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Bring the Light Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| hahaha - b_rent just solved this song for me. I was having trouble understanding this song. but it clicked just now. "Shot down, I stood, withstood my neighborhood" is about Lucifer's fall from grace when he stood against god. Lucifer was also God's light bearer as the first angel created. so the song is from lucifer's point of view, "mix my ash with your blood, a son of god you know you must arrive" Makes a whole lot more sense. and hell is associated with fire and fire is associated with ash. i can't fully interpret it, but the song does make sense from lucifer's point of view. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – United States Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Love this song. simple. Angry as heck. and yeah the vocals on this are like the vocals on billy's solo album. But its the melody i've fallen in love with. | |
| Savage Garden – Gunning Down Romance Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song. The way it just perfectly describes that wanting to love and be loved in return, and the devotion that goes into it. and the sudden almost knee jerk reaction to being scorned by love to want to beat up the emotion. | |
| Savage Garden – You Can Still Be Free Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I thought it was about the greek myth of Icarus, the dude that built wings to fly to the sun, and ended up burning to death. hence "Aim for the burning sun" I still like the song, though i'm not fully convinced on its meaning anymore. | |
| Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is just the best. This song holds a lot of meaning in Cash's voice. ultimately, it just gets to you. a song for fighting a losing battle. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Age of Innocence Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| even though it WAS a goodbye song, and a brilliant one at that. we must still see that billy came true to his promise, "A little taste of what may come" I think he must've known that it wasn't over. It would be nice to think of this as the end of a mini saga of 1979, Perfect and Age of innocence. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It occurred to me listening to this track, that it wasn't mean't for something like batman and robin. In my personal opinion, if they ever make a movie about the events of Columbine high school, this would fit perfectly, the end is the beginning would go as well but this slow version kicks ass. Beautifully "Strange". | |
| Marilyn Manson – Sweet Dreams (Eurythmics cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
well, those who thought this song was about drugs, you are correct. Have none of you heard of the drug DMT? DMT is a chemical in your brain that activates your dreams, and also when you die, a lot of DMT is released into your bloodstream, this is why your life flashes before your eyes, because it is simply a massive trip. DMT is literally what Sweet Dreams are made of! hence Use and Abuse, and knowing "what's inside" i'm surprised no one ever noticed this. |
|
| The Smashing Pumpkins – 7 Shades of Black Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Supernuke, htf do you manage to do that? You've topped your old record by 2 xtra comments. This is one strong song, I do have a suggestion to it's meaning, and if I'm wrong, I apologise. but i reckon this runs in the same vein as Cherub Rock, and Billy is venting frustration on the music industry and these new generation bands that are arriving, I'm thinking of hard-fi and maximo park and their american counterparts. I repeat, I've only recently sat down with this album, I could easily be wrong. |
|
| The Smashing Pumpkins – That's the Way (My Love Is) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| That has possibly got to be the biggest duplication of a comment I have ever seen. This song is top quality, as is the rest of Zeitgeist, But this one does stand out. | |
| Linkin Park – Bleed It Out Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think it's basically about bloodletting, which can be two things, it can be; A - a sacrifice or B - a way of removing the impurities in your blood. I personally think its B, as a song to show that Linkin park have bled away all the bullshit from their lyrics to reveal something more pure and raw, and the suicide references is to show that they know they may be committing musical suicide by adjusting their musical format in this way. | |
| Poets Of The Fall – Late Goodbye Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song really is something. apparently it was based on a dream that Sam Lake had. Something very sentimental but painful resonates in this song. I would love to know what exactly Sam Lake dreamt, because it must have been powerfully inspirational. btw Max Payne IS one of the best games there is. | |
| Rage Against the Machine – Killing In The Name Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
An anti-racist anthem. For those dumb fucks out there, "Stop In the NAME of the Law" Hence the "Killing in the NAME" which makes perfect sense because if you add the last bit on, "Killing in the Name of the Law" Backs up the idea of the corruption in the police force and government and the theory about being asked to go to war. This song is not about religion, but it can if you want it to be. Also, quite frankly, for those anarchists out there, maybe you should explain this to me because I'm having trouble grasping with this concept. The fact that you want the government to fall and never return is suggestive of absolutely no order, which means chaos on the streets everywhere. So we got Murderers, Rapists, Paedophiles and Psychos running round on the streets because there is not police to put them in line, there are no jails because they are paid for and built by the state. Jobs are completly useless as their wages come from the government no matter which way you look at it, because every company has to be verified by the government. So, essentially the only way to make money is rob other people, People who are most likely innocent. So my question to you anarchists is this; Why The fuck would you want to bring down the government? But It doesn't matter does it? Because you're just teenagers that have nothing left to rebel against. All I can say is shut the fuck up, get a job, get a bf/gf, get promoted, get married, get promoted again, have kids because now you can afford it, raise the kids well so the next generation doesn't act JUST LIKE YOU, and then die. This song is just fucking ace, I wrote all of what i just said whilst listening to it, thats why i was so pissed off. Really energetic and angry. |
|
| Staind – Epiphany Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I connected with this song instantly, the drug reference, the lack of concentration, the attention seeking/hiding, and of course, the fact that it's always raining in my head. Top quality music. | |
| Stereophonics – Superman Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| very true patagon, we should all appreciate the love between lois and superman (or should i say Clark) | |
| Culture Club – Karma Chameleon Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| red, gold and green are the colours of the africian flag, but i'm at a loss to explain this one. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Pastichio Medley Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is ace, it is also hilarious to make strangers listen to, because their reaction is just classic. but a warning, never play this to acidheads on a trip, they totally freak out and start screaming "Stop it, Its in my head! aarrrggghhhh!!" I was rotflmao. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Stars Falling Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| it's actually "Once my words were dangerous, now they're just a blasphemy" | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Mayonaise Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| If you love the SD version of this song, I extremly suggest listening to the Mashed Potatoes version. Its exactly the same, expect the music is spaced out. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Nothing and Everything Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Hell Yeah! | |
| Billy Corgan – DIA Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I love this song. songmeaningsuser has raised a point, what is this 'one wish' that billy refers to? | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Pennies Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I'm gonna make a half witted, but serious suggestion. consider this, what if Penny was a prostitute? i know that would raise grammatical issues, but "Penny's for sale" starts to make a whole lot more sense. |
|
| Goldfinger – 99 Red Balloons Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| OK, I've just read every single one of those comments. After about the thrid page I realised that everything that could be said about this song has been said. Everyone knows the meaning of it. Its blindingly obvious. Just leave it the fuck alone, this wasn't even the best version, NOFX and Nena did the best versions. This may be because i love good original songs before they are tainted by various artists and because I listen to NOFX, but either way this version sucks compared. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Behold! The Night Mare Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is clearly about billy and his relationship with his mother. I can't explain it exactly, but i can give you the instructions to realise this. Just listen to 'for martha' then listen to this. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Let Me Give the World to You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I personally think that this wouldn't have sat right in adore or machina, adore was an acoustic and electronique album, and Machina was more about god and glass than anyting else. This fits in perfectly on machina II because, well, it just DOES. as meanings go, its pretty self explanatory, but i don't think this one had anything to do with Glass and June, its too....Happy. |
|
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Rain Drops + Sun Showers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think requien89 has hit the nail on the head, in my opinion anyways. It seems to be about how "rain falls on everyone" aka "shit happens" and its this rain that is causing so much grief that love is sometimes hard to bear. Billy is putting this in metaphor terms of two lovers walking through a storm. also, I don't blame the person who put these lyrics on, because it is a hard song to write down AND get right if you don't have the lyrics in front of you. e.g. I thought "obscure reflections of my love" was "How scarred affections are my love" |
|
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Drown Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
how the hell didn't this end up on siamese dream??? Just...Great. And I personally see it as being about love. |
|
| The Avalanches – Frontier Psychiatrist Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think the actual concept behind this song is to give the listener a glimpse into an insane mind, with people talking all the time, and scary music. whenever i listen to this song it feels like a deep psychosis, circling in my head. but maybe thats because i'm insane. | |
| Simon and Garfunkel – The Sound of Silence Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I know this isn't what the song is about, but i got a signifigant sense of religion and jesus in this song. the lines "Hear my words that I might teach you, Take my arms that I might reach you." I think of jesus and his preaching, and of course the last stanza of the song makes me think of rome at the time of jesus' crucifixon. And it provides a view from jesus looking back on mankind, and how his wisdom was wasted. "But my words like silent raindrops fell, And echoed In the wells of silence" but yeah...thats just what i noticed. even though it is clearly about lack of communication in society. |
|
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Home Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I grew up in a rural place, so this song speaks volumes to me. And that feeling that you just wanna throw in the towel and go back home, I fell for this song in a big way, just love it. | |
| Billy Idol – White Wedding Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Kaliedoscopeeyes is right, my version has an extra bit just after the first chorus, it goes like this Hey little sister who is it you're with Hey little sister what's your first wish Hey little sister shotgun oh yeah Hey little sister who's your superman Hey little sister shotgun This song is quite creepy, I never found a real meaning without creeping myself out. |
|
| Evanescence – Cartoon Network Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| okita-kun, who the hell raised you, because i wanna be adopted by them! This song was suppoed to be a little bit of fun. not to be taken seriously. and secondly, i know someone who is 17 and still watches CN, should i be worried for them? | |
| Evanescence – Zero (Smashing Pumpkins cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
He's called billy corgan!!! Jesus wept! btw I agree with I Want You Dead. |
|
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Blue Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think Dueil's right, although there's the matter of the music, which begins with the mania, and settles down at the end. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Hello Kitty Kat Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song just has a lot of malice and vengance behind it, whenever i listen to it i get the feeling of adrenaline and spite that comes from the narrator. I also find this song becomes slightly addictive. eth's right though. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Disarm Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song seriously reminds me of my childhood, as it probably does for the rest of you. I love the fact that the lose of innocence is portrayed as the child becoming a killer. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – La Dolly Vita Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Just a good song, I understand it's about having a good life with the girl of your dreams. But it can just settle you, calm you straight down. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Starla Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
If god plays guitar, i'm sure he plays this one all the time. just amazing, The lyrics are said with feeling, that drum beat in the middle just gives you that little rest from the guitar, then you sent ears first into the best guitar solo ever. "High, in the sky" |
