| The Used – Handsome Awkward Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Quinn Allman has said that it is about a "singer with short blond hair", which has been taken to mean Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance. When asked if he thought that the subject of the song would be offended by the song, Bert McCracken answered that he thinks that he will love it and wish he had written it. I know that's not much of an opinion, but I just thought I should put that up. | |

This seems to be a song about murdering an girlfriend/ex-girlfriend ("Find a safe place, brace yourself, bite your lip I'm sending your fingernails and empty bottles you've sipped Back to your family cause I know you will be missed") and then committing suicide ("I found the cure to growing older"- the cure to growing older is widely known as dying young). My interpertation, line by line: "I found the cure to growing older"- he wants to die. "And you're the only place that feels like home"- she's all he's been used to for awhile now, so it's hard to give that up. "Just so you know, you'll never know"- you'll never know why he did this, so prepare yourself to be unprepared. "And some secrets weren't meant to be told I found the cure to growing older"- he'll keep your secrets if you keep his- that he killed you. Then he will kill himself because it's better than the alternative. "I'm the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends"- this line is about arrogance and stupidity and being blind to it. he knows he's not the first, but he's going to do it anyway. "And I am sorry my conscience called in sick again"- he's not sorry he's doing this. "And I've got arrogance down to a science"- this, I think, relates most to the "they call kids like us vicious..." part. he knows he's insane and that he's not doing the rightthing, but he's too above it all to even care. "Douse yourself in cheap perfume it's So fitting of the way you are You can't cover it up" she is a cheap whore and he knows it.he is so maliciously angry at her for this that no matter what she does to attempt to cover it up, he sees right through it. "Find a safe place, brace yourself, bite your lip I'm sending your fingernails and empty bottles you've sipped Back to your family cause I know you will be missed"- he's going to kill her. he still cares about her and knows others do too, but he still wants her to be dead. "They call kids like us vicious and carved out of stone But for what we've become, we just feel more alone"- he is a terrible person and is feeling the pain. he looks back on what he did and doesn't feel any better, just more alone. "Always weigh what I've lost against what I left Progress report: I am missing you to death"- this is worse than how it was before. 'why did i do this?' he misses her, enough to die. he is about to commit suicide. "Someone old No one new Feeling borrowed always blue Someone old No one new Always borrowed Always you" -like marriage, he feels so close to her that it seems almost as if they are married, because she is always in his thoughts, even after her death. he will never love again, because it will always be her. she is used merchandise, but mostly only used by his own former self. |
